Advantages: £55+ of services and a free phone for £19 a month Disadvantages: My previous review on this was confusing!
...flash!
After being with o2 on their payg (pay as you go) package with 300 free texts/300 free WAP minutes for a long time they decided I was worthy. The hardest thing I found was deciding which phone to have, the choice is so varied, and most were free (even the new Samsung D500.)
Which package?

This is my experience based from committing to a 12 month contract at www.o2.co.uk. There are many different options, based on a texter or a talker!
Why move to contract? The main reason I switched to contract was because I wanted a new true tone, camera phone, I wanted bluetooth, radio and everything else flash! After being with o2 on their payg (pay as you go) package with 300 free texts/300 free WAP minutes for a long time they decided I was worthy. The hardest thing I found was deciding which phone to have, the choice is so varied, and most were free (even the new Samsung D500.)
Which package? I opted for the 50 package as I very rarely call anyone, finding the crazy frog on my phone telling me I have a text more pleasurable (I know, so sad!) Within this package you get 500, count them, 500, free texts each month. That is £50 worth of messaging for the bargain price of £19. I just signed up DH on O2 and he has the talk option. 500 minutes cross network, off peak and 100 free sms. His costs £25 per month, his Nokia 6230 was free and came with a bluetooth headset. What's the deal for my £19? Any of the latest phones available, Samsungs, Motorolas, Nokias. These are mostly free! Included in there are 50 minutes of anytime cross network minutes, which I only deem to use in emergencies (out of chocolate, bring home Diet Coke, the rats ate the fuschia agian etc.) After this i find the charges to be fairly reasonable, except to call a landline, at 10p per minute, I think this could have been lower. o2 to o2 isn't too bad at 10p minute, just keep the calls short and sweet. Cross network...... 40p a minute, save your breath and text instead. If you truly have busy thumbs, and use in excess off 500 sms, they are 10p each. The other downside is, I'm used to 300 free wap minutes and loved to download and chat on my mobile, now I'm to be charged £2.35 per mb. Not sure how much I'll use that now!! I'll stick to datacable downloads!
Where's my bill? I sort out my bill online, and can access the help pages and bills for free, which I like the idea of. O2 let me know through Email when my new bill is ready, I log in and can see who I called or sent a message, and what I downloaded. There is no unneccesary waste paper, and husband never needs to see how much I spent the last time we argued leading me to call friend/ mum/ dad/ sister for sympathy!!
Well, what about those international helplines? Answer, there are none! I haven't ever had to use customer services (voice), touch wood, but have had a reasonably efficient, personal and helpful response when I've sent queries through email.
Can I send MMS? Multi media messages (MMS) are included in your free text allowance, although each one counts as 3 standard messages. Meaning you can send pictures and tones out to friends without the worry of being billed each time.
There must be a downside? There is one major problem with this, if like myself, you can't keep track of messages and calls. Although now I have switched to a 6230 it's relatively easy as there are call and sms counters!
Benefits 500 free SMS or equivalent of MMS (or both) The first 50 minutes of calls a month are free Varied choice of phones Choice of free online billing
Pitfalls Easy to get carried away No notification of when allowances have been used up If a better deal comes along before your 12 month contract is finalised..... you're stuck.
It is only my opinion, but I like this package, o2 is easily accessible, has excellent network coverage, and reasonable rates. Just don't commit to this package if you like to chat! But there are other options to choose from.
For pay as you go customers, check out o2 anyway and find the former "genie" sim card. It's what I used to be on, 300 free text/wap with only £10 top up per month needed!!?
So, there we are, it's a good deal and I have yet to find better, especially as my family are all O2 converts, using the PAYG sim cards. Things like mobile contracts rarely suit two people equally. Remember you are entering a binding contract before committing to anything.
The O2 50 gives you of 50 mins anytime to any network but the question is, what kind of person would this suit. Ideally the kind of person who hardly ever uses the phone, maybe just has the phone for emergencies, or the quick calls or even an elderly person who just needs the convenience of having a mobile with a few minutes to use each month.
It's also ideal for a texter, young or old as you are provided with 500 free sms worth £50 each month
... ...only realy benefit to this o2 50 is the free 500 messages working out at £50 a month, then again you get near enough that on prepay, but on the other hand you would get a brand new phone with some of them been free. thats a nice thing to have with this.
Lets have a look at the prices on the contract 02 50

Advantages: Great for those idol thumbs! Disadvantages: 50 minutes can easily be used up
When I was looking for my new phone I went on to the 02 website and found this good offer! £19 a month I thought 16 texts a day, I'll have it. So i did and the phone arrived quicker than i expected and was ready to use straight away. They accepted all major credit cards and all was done in an instant! However 16 texts goes rather easily when you get addicted to texting, and the 50 minutes that coinside may not be substantional. I found this a slight ...

Advantages: Super Value for Money, Quality Free Phones Disadvantages: Customer Service Rubbish!
Besides O2 puns, their customer service is no laughing matter (except, of course, if you're the Brighton O2 store, in which case they're all probably having a good chuckle...)
Let me explain to you my experience with this popular network operator:
I decided to change my contract with BT Mobile at the end of 2004. I was paying usually £35-40 a month and not really getting much for my money. I had a great handset, the Nokia 5100 and this was getting a little old-fashioned too. So I had a look around as I was aware network operators were offering superb deals on their online tariffs!
I settled on O2's Online 50 tariff as this was the best deal I could find after searching all over the internet from T-Mobile to Orange, Vodafone to Three, and all the high street retailers: Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse and the like. The O2 tariff ...

?free online itemised billing sent to your e-mail address or viewable online

As well as this you also get free e-mail and texts through the o2 online web site, and you get to keep your old number for free.
I started this contract in December 04 when my old o2 contract finished. I wanted the new XDA II and o2 online is by far the cheapest place to buy it. On this contract the phone only cost me £99 compared with well over £200 everywhere else that I looked... and I did some shopping around.
Before this contract I was on an o2 contract with the CarphoneWarehouse division of O2 on a similar contract costing about £19 per ...
Advantages: Good looking, Good camera, Supplied with USB Cable! Disadvantages: Sometimes slow to respond
Having decided to upgrade my phone, I plumped for the Nokia N70 whilst staying on O2. I went for the 12month contract and pay £50 for the phone instead of getting the phone for free, but commit to an 18 month contract - I will want to change before that!!
Opening the box with anticipation I was met with a good looking phone (I'd only ever seen the dummy model in the shops) and it has a good weight to it - but not too much that it affects the phone. The sim card is easy to put in, and the battery slots in, and then it is just to slide the plastic back on. The back does feel a bit flimsy but once on the phone, it doesn't matter about that!
Switching on the phone plays the nokia theme and shows the joining hands - but it took a while to get to that point - about 30seconds in all. I feel that this is a bit slow for a phone to boot up, but ...
