I've been with O2 for about 5 years now, ever since they became O2 from BT Celnet. I'd say the 500 text and 500 off peak minutes are good value for £25per month but it has its downfalls.

Firstly a few months ago a 3rd party call centre that O2 deals with called me to sell me a different package, without my consent they changed my tarrif and from a max of £50pm I was spending it went to £100!!!! Lets just say that I was not happy!!!

You have to call a premium rate number and your basically on hold for at least 5 mins. 5 mins might not sound much but when you think its costing about 50p a minute its bad! When you are finally connected to one of the customer service opp's you cant be sure they will deal with the problem! I've had a number of issue's with the O2 online.

It took 13 strongly worded emails and calls for one customer service girl to change my tarrif back to what it was and also refund me. Problem was it was credit applied to my phone so I didnt get it back in my bank!
Next problem was online access, the websites down a hell of a lot, so if you want to see your bill as it happens its difficult!
I could go on and on in regards to the poor customer service but lets stop for now :)
In terms of the tarrif, well its great for people who text alot and will never use there mobile in the day but O2's Off Peak is after 7pm and for me and im sure alot of mobile users you need to make the odd call in peak time! The rate's then are approximatly 50p a minute!
I dont use my phone much now and i'm not interested in the new phones they offer as basically there not "the best" unless you spend over £100pm you get the standard "free" phones upgrade that new customers can get anyway! No loyalty to existing customers! Also know one calls you or texts you to remind you that you can get the upgrade!
I've decided to move to Pay as you go, basically I use the landline at home or work phone :) and mobile to text. If you live a busy life like myself you wont keep looking at the website to see what your spending.
Coverage is good within the UK but recently when I was in Spain (salou) my O2 phone worked but I had 1 out of 6 bars strengh! this compared to a friends virgin phones full strength and I was lucky if I had any signal.
Calling O2 to get a PAC code so I can port my number across to (TESCO) (10p a call any time and 5p a text as long as you top up with £15 or 20p/10p if you dont) was a nightmare, they kept me waiting 20mins passing me to depts to depts and then the sales team!!!!!!! I ended up giving up and asking for a pay as you go sim from them just to get off the phone!!!
My plan is to actually still go to tesco's mobile as at least I can monitor my spending and also probably save money!!
So for all those thinking about the O2 online 500 deal, think again and think if you need to use you phone in peak time think agan or expect a hefty bill. Only plus is its value for money if you send 500 texts and only use your phone peak time and UK coverage is great.
Advantages: Some good free mobiles on offer Disadvantages: awful customer service's
...I went into my local O2 shop to have a look at what phones were on offer, as I was due an upgrade on my contract. I decided on a snazzy little Sony Ericsson, for some reason the O2 shop were unable to process my upgrade, and was told that I needed to ring the upgrade "hotline", of course, thats the obvious thing to do!! I meen, what do those shops do apart from lure the initial customers? There is no customer service, all that has to be done online ... ...do was offer me the O2 X3, which frankly (after the pathetic O2 X1) I didn't trust. So, me being me, I hung up and rang again, hoping to speak to a more sympathetic agent. This time I was quoted £55, and although I tried to explain my thoughts, it seemed to be no use. Then suddenly I had a good idea (those who know me, know that these are few and far between!), I asked to be put through to the cancelation department (or whatever they call themselves), ...

...and when it changed to o2 I stayed with them until this year. Although I have received years of poor customer service to say the least o2 has always been cheaper than other networks for my usage (I'm a big texter). This I'm afraid to say is my only reason for being with o2 as their customer service is exceptionally poor.
I have had lots of complaints through the years and when you want to tell them about something that has gone wrong they either ... ...chasing up the sim card. O2 just didn't seem to care that I had waited so long without being able to use the phone and that I had spent a small fortune on calls because I wasn't getting email replies. In all I had paid for over a months line rental without a sim card to use (where it usually takes a couple of days at most to send out a replacement) and O2 were in no way sorry.
That was over a year ago and is only an example of the poor service o2 ...

The phones that O2 online offer are fairly up to date and are at a good price many avail;able for free with this particular contract. £25 is the best contract available online in regards to off peak and for a long time was the best on offer over many networks. I have had no problems with my contract but any questions were promptly answered through emails. The best benefit is the online bill where you can keep informed about your ...

...sorted can be tricky. O2 Online are a separate company from O2, and therefore the high street O2 stores will rarely help with your enquiries.
All correspondence is to be dealt with through the O2 website, and emails.
Getting a response from O2 Online can be tiresome, although, much of the assistance you need is available in the Help sections online.
Overall, this deal is great value for money, if the tariff suits your phone usage, and you don't ...

Advantages: Great value Disadvantages: Poor and expensive customer service
I've been with o2 since they took over Genie and have always found the value of their tariffs for people like me who text rather than talk, to be top of all the providers.
I have a slightly older version of this tariff, and pay £20 for 500 texts, and the bill is usually a few pounds more due to short calls. This leaves me able to text as much as I want without worrying about the cost, and I was amazed that I was able to text from central France ... ...ages to get through to the right department and talk to someone who knows what they're doing.
So all in all, great tariffs, great value, but useless customer service. However, problems arise so infrequently that this hasn't caused much inconvenience and I would definitely recommend o2 to anyone! ...
