To cut a long story short I made over 80 phone calls and over a dozen visits to the shop to get it sorted out. Only when I asked for the manager did O2 advixse that the repair centre is run by another company who purely "let" office space in O2's shops.

Firstly I would like to point out that this is not a moan at O2 although, in a roundabout way, they are involved. I recently took my wife's phone in to an "O2" shop in London as she was having trouble sending text messages. The error was "SMS barred". The repair centre said they had a good idea what the problem was, something about the SMS software needed re-installing, and that they could send it away, get it fixed and have it back to me in 2 weeks. They estimated it would cost about £25 to repair (which coincided with their minimum fee!!) 2 weeks passed and I hadn't heard a thing so I called the O2 shop and they said they hadn't heard anything from the repair centre where they had sent the phone off to. To cut a long story short I made over 80 phone calls and over a dozen visits to the shop to get it sorted out. Only when I asked for the manager did O2 advixse that the repair centre is run by another company who purely "let" office space in O2's shops. This company is called "Anovo" and so I spoke with the area manager of Anovo who said he would chase the repair centre. He refused to give me his phone number so I had no way of contacting him. Unsurpisingly, another week passed without hearing anything so I went to the O2 shop again and "spoke" to the chap who originally took the phone in for repair. He to refused to give me the area managers phone number but sai dhe would call him and get him to call me.... After hearing nothing for a few more days I looked up the company on the internet and called their head office, expecting them to sort it out. They were just as aweful as the other incompetent staff they employ so it is no wonder they cannot do anything right. They eventually quoted me just over £30 to fix the phone and when I refused to pay the full amount (not particularly expensive but it was the principal of the matter now) because of the lack of service and the fact it had taken them 2 months to get me the quote when i was told 2 weeks (i thought that was long enough!!), even the head office were not willing to negotiate, I have now asked for them to return it unrepaired. If you have a mobile phone that needs repairing check which company you are actually dealing with first as, on the face of it, I thought I was dealing with O2 whereas it was actually a company called ANOVO. How O2 let this company have their shop space is beyond me. Whatever you do - avoid them like the plague........
Advantages: excellent service from shop personnel Disadvantages: the shop is not local to home for me
I have been with 02 for many years. My two eldest girls (now 17 and 13) are seasoned mobile users - also with 02.
I have never had much joy from 02 customer care - mostly because they eat up my pay and go balance (but they have been very useful when phones have been lost, despite the vast call cost!).
In constrast, 02 Shops are great!!!
The staff are knowledgeable. They instantly sort out difficulties with 02 mobiles, for example:
Daughter could ... ...(as she thought). Shop did it instantly.
Daughter was receiving charged incoming texts - instantly eating up her pay and go credits. Shop stopped these instantly.
Daughter's phone was playing up (telling her SIM was not recognised). Shop instantly replaced SIM card (transeferred her number, phone book, credit) and problem ended.
AND ALL OF THIS WAS FREE.
It is just a pity that the same level of service is not available via the 02 customer care ...

Advantages: Have a shop in most High Streets Disadvantages: Appalling service
...found the staff at the O2 shop completely unhelpful!
I first had a problem with my SIM card which I had bought online. As I had bought it online the O2 shop didnt want anything to do with the problem and told me to call customer services! To call them costs 50p per minute and then you end up stuck in a queue forever!
The next problem I had was that I was being charged for calls I hadnt made. I was immediately told by the shop that it was my fault ... ...not having been abroad). They told me that if I wanted to see a copy of a bill it would cost me £10 because I am a Pay & Go customer! Not only were the staff unhelpful on this occasion but outright rude to me! Even after numerous calls to the customer services dept and a letter to the head office this issue has still not been resolved. On a marginally better note the shop is usually quieter than other phone shops so you tend to get served quicker ...

...and then she noticed that O2 was taking 2 payments each month.. By this time her account didn't have enough funds for paying 2 monthly charges.
I took a look at the UPGRADE paperwork..... YOU got it.... It wasn't an upgrade at all, but in fact a totally new contract, and new phone number that the salesman didn't make her aware of...
The management at the store did take the phone back, refund her money, the £79:99 she paid on the day she bought ... ...charges for being overdrawn, which O2 DO NOT want to accept responsibility for despite their communication which confirms their failure to provide a service... WHATS more the saleman in question is still employed by the shop.
The Management know that he uses underhand tactics to make sales and secure NEW accounts, but don't seem to be taking the action of SACKING him which he deserves.
It is has led us to feel totally let down, and now she has ...

Advantages: Excellent network coverage, quick Broadband speeds Disadvantages: Handset deals not always as competitive
Orange or one of the other top brands. At the time I was living in Bath which was a bit notorious for poor signal in the centre of town with Orange and Vodafone (I had friends who experienced this on these networks). Before purchasing, the staff in the O2shop were happy to check not only the signal strength there in town, but also the strength at my family's home in the South East, as I would be there for up to a month at a time on holidays.
One point I have noticed is that they don't always do as competitive handset prices as the other main players. I have recently upgraded my handset to a Sony Ericsson W910i (which I have written a review on) and decided to use the online O2shop, as other companies such as the Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U could not give a decent enough deal. I must admit that the whole process was just as simple ...

Advantages: Are there any advantages with O2?? Disadvantages: The whole network!
I've been with O2 for quite a few years now & I guess I changed over because they had a better deal than orange at the time.
They've been ok up to the past 6 months or so. I found that after getting O2 mobile broadband, I have had the worst experiences with them.
I think my mobile broadband worked (temperamentally) for about a week. It kept disconnecting me around every 4 mins. I called customer services who told me to uninstall the software and re-install it again. After doing this I discovered the dongle was faulty & took it back to the O2shop as the advisor had to. The people in the O2shop told me that as i'd bought it online I needed to send it back to the address supplied on the despatch note. I had thrown this away in my haste & no longer had the address!
After several phone calls to customer services, O2 have now ...
