Aside from the normal PDA functions like Calendar and Contacts (Outlook), the XDA can also store and play MP3 and WMA audio files. It has an MMC/SD card expansion bus so you can add usable memory very easily, which makes space available for additional music, programs and other files. I have personally added a 256MB SD card and find that adequate for most things. I believe you can use 512MB SD cards without problems and the same should go for MMC as well.
That is only the surface of this device though. It doesn't have the name PocketPC for no reason. Once you start installing third party programs onto it, you start to see how flexible the platform really is. It's processor is a 206MHz Intel ARM and it seems to have no problem running the most demanding pocket applications. You can get games as advanced as Age of Empires and Tomb Raider on this device, or you can play DivX videos. The possibilities are amazing.
As far as being a phone goes it is brilliant. Installing the latest ROM version dispels any problems the original unit has, such as not providing the name of an SMS contact. Once you get used to the Outlook way of handling things, you will find it far easier than any other device to organise your contacts and messages. Although I have read to the contrary, I have yet to have reception problems. It is cetainly no worse than many other phones I have used. Also, to top it all, you can do a complete backup of all your data to an external storage card, so if you do run into any problems it can easily be fixed.
If it came with a camera it would be the only phone to own as far as I'm concerned. As it is, you can now buy an addon camera that plugs into the SD bus. It has a swivel lens, which makes it more useful than most phone cameras. There are also a couple of other things that seem a little short sighted. There is an infrared port for synchronising with other devices, but no bluetooth for some reason. There is no WiFi and unfortunately, the SD expansion port is not SDIO, so that rules out adding other SDIO devices such as network cards. The addon camera was specially designed to overcome this limitation, but I don't know how far such tricks can be applied to other devices as well. All in all though, an excellent PDA and a great phone. Currently it is retailing for about €900 here in Ireland, or €625 with a new contract.
Advantages: The huge range of features Disadvantages: The size

What would your ideal phone be able to do? Would it have a huge colour screen? The ability to play mp3's or movies? Access the World Wide Web while on the move? The phone you are looking for is the XDA. The basics
Pocket PCs have been around for a while. They operate like miniature laptops and normally include a built in windows operating system and popular software such as Media Player, Word ... ...world of pocket PCs and mobiles have been merged into one. The first thing that hits you upon viewing the XDA is the sheer size of the screen, sizing up at 8cm by 6.5cm it takes up almost the whole face of the phone. This of course does mean the phone is larger then most of today's modern phones, it will still however fit comfortably into any pocket. The XDA is operated by touch screen, mainly by a stylus that is hidden inside the Ariel, however ...

Advantages: Design, Windows PPC, Battery, Screen. Disadvantages: No SDIO slot, no bluetooth.
The O2 XDA is a superb piece of kit. If you're looking for a Phone/PDA combined, get this. Even if you just want a new PDA it's worth considering.
I picked an original 32 Mb version (they are now selling 64 Mb versions) up from eBay. It comes with 32Mb RAM (for currently running programs and the storage of documents) and 32Mb ROM (for the Windows OS).
The screen has a 240x320 resolution and is crystal clear. There is one SD/MMC expandsion slot ... ...slot (still on the bottom) is a connector for a USB cable or charging cable. You can buy cables that sync and charge at the same time - and USB cradles do this too.
Other accessories (such as foldaway keyboards - very handy and very reasonably priced) also use this slot. There is a 3mm headset jack, also on the bottom. In total there are 5 hardware buttons plus a directional keypad with central button. These buttons are used for common tasks such ...

Advantages: Phone, e-mail, sms, internet capable Pocket PC Disadvantages: Needs reloading completely when it loses its charge
Firstly I love this pocket PC. It's supplied by work so it has all of the bells and whistles and I don't have to pay a thing (a definate bonus). That said I don't know what anything costs for it.
The main disadvantage is that the battery only lasts three days if you don't use it. Admittedly you can turn flight mode on to lengthen the battery time (you can't actually turn the XDA off) but that means that you lose the messaging, e-mail and phone facilities ... ...gets down to 15% (I think) then it stops you being able to turn the screen on (the main battery drain) and if the main battery goes down to 0% you've got about half-an-hour to get it on charge before everything gets wiped. This means that it has to be resyncronized with your computer and all of the software and files reloaded. It also means (in my case) having to get reaccess to the GPRS duality website so that I can receive e-mails. I've got into ...

Advantages: Slim, cool nice Disadvantages: Connecting to internet
...when I first saw the O2 XDA I thought that there was no other gadget in the world that could beat it, at the time I wanted a PDA and a mobile phone but I had to choose one of them I took my time thinking about this and then I came across the XDA which was perfect for me but it was a little bit pricy, at first when it came out it cost £800 which is very very expensive.
Is the XDA worth all of that money? If so what is so special about it?
Well whether ... ...if you are not with O2 because I rang up t-mobile who Ik am with and said could you send me the internet settings and they said I had to ring up o2 and they said ring up t-mobile and its like a tennis match. I never got the settings in the end.
The technical stuff
The computer is a ARM2002 processor which basically means that is what is running it, or if you download some games onto it you have to make sure the game is compatible with a ARM2002 ...

Advantages: phone and PDA all in one Disadvantages: bit big to go in your pocket; run out of battery and it wipes everything.
...a sim card on the o2 network so getting it unlocked wasn't an issue for me, but i have been told, in good faith, that it is possible.
Durability: good- mines been dropped, thrown etcetc and still works fine- obviously the leather case has taken a beating from this abuse but the xda inside is fine. plus you can easily buy new cases.
The only problem is the screen- mine is now heavily scratched in the bottom left corner [where you write to input ... ...even if you have an o2 sim card, not all the functions will work.. unless you buy this as a contract or buy a seperate data contract.. o2 do not class this phone as a "pay as you go" even though that's how i use it.
Yes, there are problems with this phone. but i've found problems with all phones i've ever owned. and the problems i find annoying someone else may find great, endearing or something. Thing is: i love this phone. it's a great piece of ...

Advantages: Reliable, 3G and Wireless with office package and outlook sync Disadvantages: Thirsty processor reduces battery life to about 2 days.
Where do I start? I bought the trion as an upgrade to replace my O2XDA Mini S. Let me begin by describing the cons of the device:
1) At 2.0 Megapixels the camera is woefully inadequate
2) Whilst Running Windows Mobile 6.0, I am still unable to view online video, like BBC news broadcasts or youtube
3) With all functions running (bluetooth wireless etc) the battery lasts about 48hrs maximum.
4) I have noticed the occasional 'slowdown' as a result of running several programmes at once.
5) The on/standyby button seems to have a mind of its own as to how long you need to hold it down before the screen lights up.
But enough of all this negativity. In comparison to my mini s it is very much the next generation. For starters it features a 400MHz processor and I am old enough to remember high spec laptops having a similar speed ...

Advantages: Look and feel, features Disadvantages: Slightly bulky
This is an expanded version of an old, old review of my O2XDAII Pocket PC, which I remain very happy with.
OVERVIEW:
I was given one of these by my director and have found it very useful so far. At first it felt quite cumbersome because of the bulkiness, but after a while I just didn't notice that anymore. It looks very attractive and the operating system is both familiar and intuitive. What I would say is, don't get it if you're just after a 'phone- it is expensive for such a basic requirement. But the other features, such as email, Office applications etc. make it more than worthwhile if you intend to use the more advanced aspects. Besides, I don't pay for the texts or the phone calls, which is another reason why I'm happy with it.
TEXTING:
One thing I would also add is that this has been a godsend for me when it comes to ...

Advantages: WIFI GPS BLUETOOTH TOUCH SCREEN CAMERA Disadvantages: just a bit slow
this is almost the best full function phone on the market. but not quite. its fantastic features include Microsoft word , excel, powerpoint, media player, outlook. it also has the GPS facility and bluetooth, and wifi. clear screen and a good battery life. sadly however the pcu is slightly slow compared to other pda's, i also have the windows mobile 5 version and it limits you to a 2gb memory card. which stupidly is behind the sim card. saying all this it is nice to handle a nice size for your pocket and has all the features you could want including a camera. many have fallen for the iphone but its a slow running machine and fashionable whereas the orbit is functional neat and almost as cool. finally the other weakness is no keyboardm sacrificed for size. the headphones are connected in the charger socket, WHY? you cant charge it in ...
