Manufacturer's product description
Universal Serial Bus (USB) port technology has emerged in response to the proliferation of external peripheral devices (scanners, digital cameras, removable drives, etc.), that are increasingly being connected to the latest generation of PCs. USB behaves in a similar fashion to conventional bus ports (i.e., serial, parallel, PS/2), but since it does not require any IRQs, more devices can be attached to the system, and the problem of IRQ conflict is eliminated. The G-UC100KM PS/2 to USB Keyboard and Mouse interface converter provides the means for PS/2 type keyboards and mice to connect to a PC, notebook, laptop, or handheld computing device that supports the USB specification via the USB bus instead of using conventional bus technology. An advantage of this for notebooks, for example, is that now an external mouse and keyboard can be connected at the same time without causing conflicts. The G-UC100KM comes with two standard 6 pin mini DIN female connectors for the PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse to plug into and has an attached 30 cm USB cable with a type A plug for connection to the PC's USB port, or to a USB hub. For further convenience - especially to users of notebooks, laptops, and handhelds - the G-UC100KM adapter derives its operating power from the Universal Serial Bus itself, so no bulky external power supply needs to be taken along. And because it is a USB Specification compliant device, the G-UC100KM supports energy-saving suspend and resume operations.

Advantages: Low Price compared to Other Brands, Mappable Keys, Looks Good Disadvantages: A little difficult to set up at first, Mouse feels quite breakable
...drivers and 4 AAA batteries for the mouse and keyboard which saved me a few pounds on batteries. The inital set-up was not completely seamless for me. I plugged the receiver into a USB port on the back of my computer - to connect you press a button on the receiver, as well as pressing the connect button on the corresponding device after putting batteries in. The mouse connected without any problems, it took roughly 5-8seconds to connect but the keyboard was a lot more hassle. It simply would not connect with my computer, despite installing the drivers and restarting a few times. To get it working I used a USB to PS2 adapter and plugged the receiver into the keyboard port. The keyboard connected and the mouse works as well without any problems.
The installation software was easy enough to use which was not difficult to navigate at all...

Advantages: Solar Power keyboard, rechargeable batteries Disadvantages: design could be better
...is a little plain to look at, but nevertheless comfortable to hold and responsive. The Solar panel keeps the batteries in the keyboard charged fully all the time and with an additional cable supplied, you can re-charge the mouse by plugging this into the PS/2 port and into a small hole in the front of the mouse. Unlike other manufacturers, Cherry's mouse can be charged whilst in use, so you never have to worry about it having to sit in a cradle overnight. The nice people at Cherry will also supply a USB adapter cable for the charger lead if you ask them nicely.
Overall, a nice keyboard with a good feel. Styling needs improvement and the cost needs to come down, but a great product to use. Highly recommended....
