Having 2 children already meant that when I was expecting my third child I already had most of the equipment I would need for him, cots, prams, baths etc…… but I was determined to have a few things that would be new, just for him and so I started looking into purchasing a new baby walker, that way our old one could stay at my mums house and he would always have something to play with while we were there but he could have the nice new one in our own home. I’ve never really been a fan of the stand and push along style walkers having seen far too many little ones fall and hurt themselves so specifically set out to find a sit in walker, when I saw the Obaby 2 in 1 walker I knew it was the one for me.

The Obaby 2 in 1 walker is a baby rocker and a baby walker in one, available in pink, blue and yellow there’s one for whatever gender you have, we chose the yellow as at the time we were unsure as to the sex of our baby, it also means that we will be able to use it again in future should we chose to try for a baby 4. While quite bulky in size, as most sit in walkers are, it collapses down making it a little easier to store away, this feature also allows the walker to have several different height levels which is perfect for growing babies as it doesn’t restrict their leg movement as they get taller. Despite the size of the walker it’s lightweight enough to make moving it easy for mummy or daddy, when putting it away, or for baby when they’re pushing it along.

When the walker arrived there was some assembly required, while the main of the base was already assembled I needed to fit in the seat and also put together the toy tray, the latter was easy enough but because the seat is designed to fit snugly and securely it is quite tricky to fix in to place initially, and equally as hard to remove which makes its wipe clean fabric a blessing! The toy tray itself features a few different activity sections, it has a light up musical space ship in the centre, to which the battery compartment is located underneath the tray away from your little ones eager fingers, it also has a wiggly rail with 3 movable balls, and 2 flower like shapes on either side of the space ship which can be span and contain beads to make rattling sounds.

While we had the walker in ready before our son was born it is not suitable for your little one until they are 6 months old and even though Jack was a strong baby able to support himself from a young age we stuck to that age guideline. At first we kept the walker in rocker mode which was lovely as it meant Jack could play happily with the toy tray while I gently rocked him and cut out any risk of my older 2 children deciding to take him on a joy ride, the walker comes with a mat which you fix underneath the base when in rocker mode and this protects their feet from brushing on the flooring etc….it turned out to be a very handy feature as my little man wasn’t very good at keeping socks and shoes on, so it protected his little feet.

As Jack grew a little older and more confident we switched the walker from rocker mode in to walker mode, this was easily done as the rocking base simply converts into the walker base by pulling on some locking pins and turning in the 2 side sections, this reveals the wheels and once the pins pop back into place you’re ready to go. I thought this was a great design feature because it meant you weren’t having to store separate bases or additional parts, it is all there in the one item, any new parent will understand how stuck for space you can be with Moses baskets, baby swings, bouncing chairs and all the other baby paraphernalia that comes with young babies so having your baby walker and baby rocker all in one is a great space and money saving option.

Your baby can get quite good control of the walker as it comes with anti slip pads for on wooden/laminate style floors and speed restricting wheels which stop the walker going faster then baby can handle, its also handy for saving mummy and daddys ankles as junior can’t get up quite so much speed when they want to run you over in the thing! Jack loved the walker in this mode as it meant he could be a lot more mobile, he was a little slow to crawl but could take the steps in his walker which meant he was able to get around and be a little more independent. It was only with his increasing age and ability to get around, stand and cruise around furniture that the walker started to get used less and eventually not at all, it is only suitable until 15 months though as many babies are able to walk confidently by this age and don’t need the walkers support anymore.

While I like and recommend this walker I do think the fixings for the toy tray could be made a little easier to use, you can remove it so your little one can have other toys in the tray compartment, or even snacks if you wish, but the 2 clips that hold it in place are quite fiddly to handle. The toys could also be a little sturdier as once when I hadn’t fixed the tray in place Jack chose to drop it on the floor and it split the plastic on one of the floral spinners. Other then that and my complaint about the difficulty in fixing the chair I think the walker is excellent, the adjustable base at first seems quite flimsy and you wonder how it would be secure but after having my 3 year old stand and climb on the sides on numerous occasions I became assured of it’s strength. The walker is totally wipe clean with few nooks and crannies for baby goo to become lodged, making it easy to keep clean and hygienic, something I think is important to most parents and overall it’s great value for money when you consider you’re getting 2 for 1.

Jack adored his baby walker and was always happy playing in it, he loved playing with the toys on the activity tray and also the ability to drive his toys around the empty tray compartment, the padded seat was obviosuly comfortable and gave him lots of support. I always enjoyed watching him play and felt happy that he was safe and secure. There is a lot of debate over the safety of baby walkers and I would never have left him where he could have come to harm, near tables, fires, stairs etc…. I also wouldn’t leave him alone long with my older children in the room purely down to the joy riding I mentioned earlier, I personally was happy to let Jack use this style walker and believe it gave him independence rather then leaving him frustrated at being unable to get around. At just under £50 I thought the walker was a bargain, there are so many activity centres and walkers available it’s hard to know which to choose and you can get caught up thinking a higher price tag means a better item but the Obaby 2 in1 is a fantastic choice for a great price.

The walker can be found through most Obaby stockists, Amazon and Ebay. Check it out here-
