Delivery, failure to turn up and damage to our house Our delivery date was arranged and we had received telephone confirmation in the morning. 15 minutes before the end the day we received a call saying that the furniture would not be delivered. We ordered almost £2000 worth of bedroom furniture. 3 of the 5 items arrived broken. When we called up the advisor told us that it was unreasonable for us to be unhappy because having broken furniture delivered was "like snow falling from the sky" and they couldn't do anything about it. I'm a solicitor, so I asked for the address for their legal department, to which I was told no, and that there was "no legal precedent" for me to be writing to them. We took delivery of a Tokyo chest of drawers and two matching bedside cabinets four days ago. The bedside cabinets were alright.. but the two top drawers of the chest of drawers were not. The routed grooves in the drawers did not line up, the top edges of the drawers were "binding" - meaning that if one was opened, the other opened as well and one of the drawer handles had no screw thread on it, so it could not be attached to the drawer front. I decided to buy a new table at Oakfurnitureland store in Lakeside Thurrock as my existing table was looking a little tired. On the 30th December I ordered the above furniture and was really impressed to have it delivered a little over a week later. Two of the chairs had numerous faults catches in the leather and lumpy unholstery on seat of the chair. Called ofl & uploaded pictures. This took ages as 6 faults but couldn't attach all photos. We recently placed a large order of lounge and dining furniture from Oak Funiture Land. The show room was excellent, giving us useful advice but not hassling us. Their sales was excellent and delivery was within the promised timescale. Delivery was also excellent, keeping us well informed throughout. Delivery men were courteous and did their job well. However, as I unpacked the items there were one or two little quality issues. Most of them, I could live with. However, the sideboard had a big split down the whole side of it and the chest of drawers had clearly been dropped on one corner ... more
