At the store, I spied on the Oil of Olay Active Hydrogel. These come in a translucent container of 50 ml. Oil of Olay has lately, churned out so many different ranges of products that I believe they will be retiring this one soon. So, use it while you can still find it. The product cost between 5 to 6 pounds depending on where you shop.

When I was in school more than a decade ago, one of my least favourite subject was chemistry. Luckily enough, I had a wonderful teacher who was able to motivate us by letting us see the relevance of chemistry in the labs. We all got quite creative, making various products such as toothpaste, shoe polish, eye shadow and even, cold cream. Suffice to say, after such an experience, I was not a huge fan of cosmetic and seldom wanted chemicals spread all over my face.
But as I grow older, my need for moisturising lotion increases. Waking up on a cold winter morning to dry skin after a refreshing shower, made me walk to the closest Boots store in search of facial moisturising lotion. My requirements were quite simple, nothing greasy and nothing strong on the perfume front. I remembered that my mother used Oil of Ulay products and she practically swears by it, so I thought, why not for me too, even though they have changed their name to Oil of Olay?
At the store, I spied on the Oil of Olay Active Hydrogel. These come in a translucent container of 50 ml. The label states that it is completely grease-free (which should read oil free), perfume-free and colour-free moisturising gel. It suited me just fine and so I bought it. And this is my verdict.
Scent-wise, its smells like nothing. There is no strong chemical scent and nothing overpowering. Given that its water-based, it feels like soft jelly (that hasn't harden yet in the fridge).
The gel is meant for daily usage. A small amount is sufficient to cover the entire face and neck. The skin feels cool after the application. I have been using this for a couple of years now, and like my mother, I swear that it works. My skin is moisturised every morning, leaving it smooth and soft. Another reason why I really really like this product, other than its not greasy and doesn't smell, the gel is absorbed easily by my skin! Being either a lazy or always in a hurry person, I am not one who wants to spend too many minutes rubbing cream on my face for too long in order to made it 'disappear' into my face. I find the best time (for me) is to apply it right after a shower, before putting on any make-up.
Now, the ingredients. One of the components is Imidazolidinyl Urea. Some of us may recall that urea is a component of urine?!? But urea has another name called carbamide, the chemical compound CO(NH2)2, which is water-soluble. Phew!
Its also called the active hydrogel because it contains something call the cellular re-moisturising complex, which is a system supposed to provide the most optimal amount of moisture to prevent the skin from de-hydrating. Does that mean it is tailoring to the needs of individual skin? I hope so and I think so too.
Now having said that this is my favourite moisturiser, I have found it increasingly difficult to locate this product. Oil of Olay has lately, churned out so many different ranges of products that I believe they will be retiring this one soon. So, use it while you can still find it. I know that they are not available in neither the US nor in Australia.

...very good price you might as well pay less than for the other Olay moisturisers which can be as much as GBP18.50 .
Overall this is a pure grease-free gel, which moisturises, softens and smoothes normal, oil and combination skin from daily dehydration. A very good moisturiser and price. ...

Let me start by saying that i've a devoted cosmo-junkie , i'm a med-student and i've stood atop of my biochem and pharmacology class.
I usually buy intense Dior ,Lancome or Shesido luxury moisturizers...... always buying the smallest sized available container since i figure i'm on the holy grail hunt so the new one i buy will be an experiment at best.
Not so with hyrdogel.
This amazing semi-sqaure crystal/glass-clear tub container is a definite ... ...no-nonsense star-ups :
1)The Consistency : it's like Ultra-Sound gel (and that too with no gender surprise): Totally clear and awesome light!.Very unique formulation it doesnt freeze or harden in the fridge and in hot weather it doesnt liquidate either.
2)The Spread : I use this product as a SpreadFactor barometer , nothing so far has even come remotely close to it's incredible dab-a-dot-go-a-mile spread. On those lazy nights where even washing ...

Advantages: Grease free, quick to absorb, light on skin, great underneath make-up, cost Disadvantages: None
I think my quest for the perfect day moisturiser has stopped at Olay active hydrogel, and the funny thing is I stumbled upon it quite by accident. After a recent trip to Boots I was pleased to receive a free voucher for the value of certain skincare products including Olay. After trying to find my normal daily moisturiser and having no luck, I picked up the 'Active Hydrogel', wow I thought a day moisturiser in a gel. As I'd never tried a facial gel ... ...currently use a hydrating night cream so thought it would work along the same lines i.e. hydrating my skin hence less dryness. Also, as it cost £5.25, I thought I couldn't lose at paying 25p for a well-known brand of moisturiser.
To my disappointment, when I got to the till, the lady told me that the voucher didn't cover that particular product. As a queue was forming behind me I couldn't be bothered with the fuss and paid the full £5.25, and how ...
