I have always loved Olay products; in fact I loved it when it was Ulay!!
Oil of Olay was first produced in South Africa in 1949. It didn't arrive to the UK until 1970, and then it was called Oil of Ulay here. It was sold in a heavy glass bottle and was a very runny pink fluid rather than a cream. In 1985 it became part of the Procter and Gamble Company, and they began to diversify the products in the Ulay range. In 1999 it was decided to bring UK in line with the rest of the world and began to be called Oil of Olay. (Except for German speaking countries and Italy where it is known as Oil of Olaz. In the Netherlands and Belgium, it was renamed just Olaz.)
Oil of Olay has come a long way since the pink lotion days of Ulay, and with their slogan "Love the skin you're in", it has expanded into a large range of beauty products
One of Olay's ranges is the 'Complete' range with its own slogan 'Everything skin needs most to look noticeably healthy' In this range are moisturisers, day and night creams, body lotion and the product that I am going to review now, their new Complete Care Touch of Foundation.
New Olay Complete Care Touch of Foundation is a daily moisturiser that comes complete with a touch of Max Factor foundation in it It comes in three shades - fair, medium and dark. The product claims to enhance skin tone and even out your complexion. It also claims to 'hydrates skin for up to 24 hours'and contain 'skin pampering vitamins'. One of the main things I like is that .it contains SPF 15 ,so it's perfect for a light sun block too.
This is the perfect product for people who don't want a heavy made up look, just a radiant, smooth natural look.
APPEARANCE
The 34ml bottle of the moisturiser/foundation comes in a predominantly white cardboard box, the clear plastic bottle has a pump action nozzle on the top and a white plastic lid. The moisturiser itself does look much more like foundation than moisturiser. When you pump the moisturiser on to your finger it has the look and consistency of foundation.
SMELL
The moisturiser has not got a strong smell, but there is a pleasant 'cosmetic' type aroma too it, nothing overpowering at all.
APPLYING
it is when you apply this product that you can tell the difference - it is neither moisturiser nor foundation just a wonderfully subtle blend of the two. Unlike regular foundation, this blends into the skin quickly, effortlessly and smoothly because of the moisturiser in it. The result is a perfect covering, no streaks and a radiant glow, with a subtle colour.
PRICE
Currently the 34ml bottles are £9.99 at Boots and Tesco, £6.63 at Asda and (until 20/10/09) £6.65 at Sainsburys. You may think that this sounds expensive, but it DOES last a long time, and remember that this is both a moisturiser and a foundation, so really it id very good value.
IN CONCLUSION
This really is a wonderful product, you can go out looking natural without feeling 'naked', the moisturiser has had a great effect on my dry skin too.
I use the medium colour, which is supposedly for 'golden skin tone'. I would heartily recommend this product which combines two high profile names - Oil of Olay and Max Factor.
Advantages: SPF 15; doesn't feel at all heavy; doesn't irritate skin Disadvantages: Expensive, unpleasant scent, doesn't blend or moisturise well; makes face shiny
...seen a television advert for Olay Complete Care Touch of Foundation which depicted a woman applying the product on a train without even looking in a mirror. This gave the impression that the product would naturally blend into the skin without any orange streaks, which can happen with even the best foundations if you're not looking what you're doing. I knew this was unrealistic and wasn't particularly swayed by the advert. I chose to buy Olay Complete ... ...have expected better from both Olay and Max Factor, and better from a product costing £10. It's a usable product and doesn't harm my skin so I do use it on occasion. I don't use it when I have dry skin because the moisturising element of it isn't effective and it accentuates dry patches. I'm not going to throw it away, but nor am I going to buy it again when it runs out. ...
