I was browsing around Boots with my Mum a few months ago, looking for something to spend her many boots advantage points on. I needed some eye makeup remover and also a new facial cleanser, so was pleasantly surprised to see that Olay now did ‘Daily Facials’ which were supposed to do both – and more. However, looking at the price – 6.99 for a tub of 30 cloths and then another 5.99 for refills – was it really worth it? But seeing as it was only points we were spending (and it’s always hard to find something you really want to buy with them), I wasn’t too bothered and decided I’d try them, and then see if I wanted to spend real money on them later.
So what exactly are they? Well, they are 30 cloths, about 6 by 8 inches, in a little plastic tub. This
tub is great – it has survived being dropped into a bath, yet it was sealed so tightly that no water got in to ruin the cloths! A definite thumbs up there then – this is after all a product you use in the bathroom so it’s likely that at some stage in its life it will suffer a fall into a bath or shower. It’s clear plastic with a little Olay logo on it – nothing which will brighten up or decorate your bathroom spectacularly, but neat and unobtrusive.
How do you use them? You need to moisten each one under the tap, lather it up (they are impregnated with cleanser), and then simply clean your face with it, as you would with a normal face flannel. One side of the cloth is textured, and this is the side that you use to deep cleanse the majority of the face. It really does remove all makeup – the cloth will be a nice orangey colour as it removes all your foundation. The smooth side of the cloth is suitable for delicate areas of the face, the eye area for example. This is great though – unlike my previous cleanser it feels totally safe to use on the eyes, with no irritations afterwards, and it removes eye makeup too. Light moisturisers are also built in to it. Rinse the cloth again, and then use it to rinse all the cleansing lotion from your face. And that’s it – you’ve cleansed, toned and removed all your makeup in one go. Having separate cloths is also better than using a flannel, since there’s no chance for any bacteria to build up – you just throw each one away after use. Each one also has a very mild, soapy, fresh smell.
This speed and ease of use is a definite bonus – at night, if you come home after a big night out, or are not exactly feeling too great, then these are ideal. Normally I would have been too lazy to take off my makeup and would wake up next morning with the pillow covered in black mascara streaks. Not too pleasant! However, these are so much quicker and easier than faffing about with bits of cotton wool and things out of different bottles – if you’re anything like me and can’t see a thing without contact lenses or glasses in, you’ll welcome this. How many times have you tried to use nail varnish remover as a cleanser simply because it looks the same colour in the bottle? On the other hand, if you’re really not in a state to clean your face, being more concerned with the fact that the bathroom walls seem to be moving up and down at an alarming rate, then these cloths are very nice to use the following morning when you’re feeling a bit icky! Cleaning your face always makes you feel a small bit better, and this is the most hassle free way to do it.
I have not suffered from any skin problems or allergic reactions when using this product. There are two varieties, normal to dry and normal to oily. I use the normal to oily because my nose is a bit on the oily side (yuck!) and gets the odd blackhead. When I first used these daily facials, I noticed a couple of spots appeared – this may however just have been coincidence, although was rare, since I don’t usually suffer from spots (despite being a total chocoholic!). However, the spots only lasted a couple of days (and they weren’t very big anyway) so I’m pretty sure that they were in no way related to the product. My skin always feels fresh and reinvigorated, and not tight, after using these and does look healthier when I look in the mirror.
But the big question – are they worth it? I would have to say yes, every penny. When you think how much you would normally spend on soap, cleanser, toner, cotton wool, flannels, and makeup remover, they don’t seem half so expensive and in reality are good value! They save time too, and really work. Throw out all your old bottles and put this little box on your bathroom shelf!
I've been thinking about trying these, i might have to splash out

I've seen these but been put off by the price. However, I might 'buy' these with my points to take on holiday in the summer - like you say, its better than faffing about with loads of bottles! Great op.
Advantages: very convenient, hygienic, cuts down on number of products needed Disadvantages: perhaps not really suitable for very dry or sensitive skin

Review of Oil of Olay Daily Facials
Advantages: The former product kept my skin soft and smooth and actually looking younger Disadvantages: I do not like the fact that you are selling basically a piece of cloth with soap for facial cleans
