Do you remember when a Snickers bar was called a Marathon and Oil of Olay was called Oil of Ulay? If so, sounds like you may have aging skin like me!
The ‘double action’ in Oil of Olay Double Action Day Cream refers to moisturising and protection.
MOISTURISING ‘It replenishes your skin’s natural moisture’ is the claim, and I would have to agree with it. The cream has a lovely creamy (surprise!) thick texture, which is non-greasy and is absorbed by my dry skin very quickly. This enables my skin to breathe and I don’t look like I have just greased up with lard. I’m not sure it would be so quickly absorbed if you had normal skin though. The cream is a light pink colour a bit like dull candyfloss and has a lovely clean smell. It certainly softens my skin and lasts a long while, though probably not quite all day. I think this cream is a hundred times better then the normal runny 'fluid' that Olay sell. Apparently a good test of how a moisturiser will suit you is to rub it on the back of your hand. You can see if it is absorbed quickly and how long it lasts, so go and bother those beauty ladies in department stores for some testers for your hand. Wander around a bit and then make your choice.
PROTECTION The protection refers mainly to the UV protection in the cream. The cream has an SPF of 6, which is great for winter, but in my opinion, not strong enough for summer. It says ‘helps protect’ the skin from harmful UV rays which are the major cause of premature skin ageing. Why it doesn’t up the SPF to 20 and claim to ‘protect’ I really don’t know. It also claims to ‘protect your skin from within against moisture loss’ by penetrating the skin and lock in natural moisture which improves the skin’s capacity to retain moisture longer. Being a bit of a bargain hunter, I have tried a lot of moisturisers in my time, and I have to say that this is definitely one of the best day creams I have tried, so I guess the claim is true.
SENSITIVITY I have extremely sensitive skin on my cheeks and this cream causes me no trouble. I have had an allergic reaction to L’Oreal products in the past, but I have been using this cream for a month now with no reaction. There is also a hypo-allergenic version available for sensitive skin, which I have not tried as I am happy with this one.
MAKE UP BASE It is a good base for make-up, which I can confirm even though I don’t wear it much. As my skin gets older I find that if I am not sufficiently moisturised my skin looks like a dry river bed after wearing powder. This does not occur with Double Action Day Cream.
VALUE FOR MONEY Well at £4.99 for 50ml, this cream is a lot cheaper than many other well known makes, like L’Oreal, Clarins or Clinique. I saw a programme once where they experimented with no moisturiser, a cheap moisturiser and an expensive one. The results were that there was very little difference between all three, so if we are going to waste our money, I suppose we might as well waste less of it. The packaging is quite attractive with a short stocky jar that you cannot knock over. It comes in a box (wasting packaging) and has a black screw top and an inner lid.
ANYTHING ELSE It is made by Proctor & Gamble and there is a telephone number to call for skincare advice – freephone 0800 708708. The instructions are to gently massage into on face and neck daily after cleansing with Oil of Olay products (what a cheek!). It is also dermatologically tested, has a neutral PH and aqua is its main ingredient. It says it will keep my skin looking younger and this is something I really must take them to the Advertising Standards Agency for – nothing seems to be able to do this for me........unless you know something different.
UPDATE: 26/10/01 I have now been using this cream for 5 months and still have not had an allergic reaction - it still gets a thumbs up. Also, the packaging has changed to a round plastic jar with a black lid. It is not as attractive, but it is lighter and will not smash in your luggage whilst going on holiday. I have seen this cream on offer in a number of places like Tescos, so keep your eye out for bargains.
Advantages: Great Absorbancy and Very Gentle Disadvantages: None
Most or all of us have heard of Olay at some time or another, it's been around for years.
Olay first begun in the 1950's by Graham and Dinah Wulff in a home laboratory, the batch even being mixed by hand. Within five years Olay was a hug success covering many countries.
Today Proctor and Gamble have the Olay name firmly under there belt.
I must admit to not having used this brand up until a few months ago, I do think that we should pay attention ... ...months on my face, and before Christmas needed a new moisturising day cream, and although I'm not a skin flint I just cannot bring myself to paying £30 or £40 for a face cream, so shopped around a little and thought I'd give this a try, after all it cant be that bad for the amount of time that it has been around.
So my purchase comes in a small pink shaded box, which holds a clear tub inside which holds 50ml.
It has a unscrew lid then a plastic ...

...we always used to buy Oil of Ulay for my Mum at Christmas. I remember thinking then that O of U must be for old ladies. How wrong was I?
Not so many years after, I began looking for a moisturiser that would suit my face and my pocket. Inspired by my Mums youthful looking skin, I decided to buy some O of U for myself and I haven't looked back since. Although many years have gone past and the name has now changed, I have never found anything that ... ...it's competitors, O of O is pretty much half their price and just as good. I bought my latest jar in Sweden and it cost 45 Krona (£3.50).
* The product is very thick and creamy and is absorbed very easily.
* I have very sensitive skin and although the product does have a distinct smell, it is very gentle and leaves my face feeling very soft.
* It is easily absorbed into my face and neck and takes literally seconds to sink in.

Quick review of Oil of Olay Double Action Day Cream
I am 60 years of age this year and I have been using 'Oil of Olay' for the past 28 years and my skin looks flawless; no wrinkles. This is just the daily moisturiser I am talking about. I have also used other products like special night creams, etc.
This is a message for an advertising agency. If you need me to participate in one of your adverts I would be very happy do so. I am Manel and the phone number is 0118 987 5105.
Thanks for reading this. ...

Advantages: Its a wonderful cream, moistoriser, makeup-base,sunscreen Disadvantages: I can't think of anything
I have been using this since 1 year and to be frank its worth the money I pay.Mine is a dry and a very sensitive skin.
And I have tried various products.At last I found this.
It has proved to be a MULTIPURPOSE cream.It is serving as a :
-->mostoriser,
-->make-up base,
-->sunscreen,
-->cold cream too.
It keeps my skin soft and smooth just as I wanted.
Till date I have not found any side effects.I use it twice a day.
I can say it is worth ... ...for makeup base and other things as I stated earlier.
One more thing I would like to add is it easily blends with my skin, mean to say it does not leave a oily appreance at the same time it does keep the moisture on the skin.
It is suitable for normal, sensitive and dry skin as per my mother's ,mine and my sister's experience but I don't know about oily skin.
The cream is around £5 for 50ml.I used the hydro mineral make-up from BORGHESE which ...

Advantages: It really does protect and keeps the skin looking younger Disadvantages: The amount of money spent on it over the years
As a qualified Beauty Therapist I felt I should give an opinion on a product in which I really do believe and put my utmost faith. As a youngster I suffered badly with dry, scaly skin on my face, to the point of peeling and soreness. Having chatted to umpteen people regarding this problem, the one thing that always came up in the conversation was the word which we all know in the beauty business "moisturisation".
Finally at the ripe old age of sixteen ... ...then known.(Note the different spelling). The difference it made to my skin was just incredible. The scaliness started to smooth, then the redness started to fade and gradually my skin re-hydrated and all marks disappeared. I continued to use this cream regularly and have used it ever since.
On the odd occasion on which I have run out of this product, I really do notice the difference, as my skin immediately starts to de-hydrate again. The product ...
