My first contact with Total Effect was a free sample tube pushed through my door quite a while ago. I'm one of those maybe unusual females who never wears make up. I don't know why - my friends are torn between thinking I'm so vain I think I don't need it, or saying I don't have the talent needed to apply it. I think it has more to do with the fact that for 13+ years I wore thick stage make up on a regular basis, and now feel the need to give my skin a break. Plus painting on a mask each morning never really appealed. Anyway, although I'm not a Make up person, I do like beauty products. At first I was wary about trying this as I always associated Oil of Olay with the older generation - my Nanna was a huge fan. Since I'm only 20, I figured I wouldn't need anti wrinkle potions etc. And I'm still convinced I don't, but that's beside the point since Total Effects is not just an anti wrinkle cream.
Total Effects is a moisturizer with a difference, the difference being that, as far as my skin is concerned, it’s perfect. There are lots of things I love about it - it lasts so long - you only need a teeny tiny amount each time you use it - and it takes next to no time as it's easily absorbed. It leaves my skin smooth and - dare I say it - radiant. My last manager even commented on it once one early Sunday morning when I arrived at work - she wanted to know what I'd been up to the night before to give me such a glow...... Since I don't wear foundation or concealer or powder or blusher, I used to notice differences in my skin more depending on my diet, lifestyle, the weather and so on, but since Total Effects has become part of my daily beauty routine, this has stopped. My skin is smoother and, yeah, it glows. It’s also one of those handy creams that knows where it’s needed, meaning I can use it all over my face and get dryer parts moisturized without making normal parts greasy. It’s proactive and reactive, preventing wrinkles occurring, but also helping smooth out those already formed.
The normal version is a pale white colour (can white be pale? Or is white just white? In which case it’s a pale creamy, almost white colour) and has a vague floral scent, but nothing overwhelming. It’s aimed at women, but if your bloke uses moistuirzer, he might like it too – I’ve several male friends who have used it and exclaimed at how nice it makes their usually rough “manly” skin feel. You can also get an accompanying body lotion.
The pump action of the bottle makes it really easy to dispense miniscule amounts, and the jars really last ages – I go through maybe one every 6 months, using it every day. Various varieties are available, including normal and perfume free, but now I normally go for the new sunscreen containing one – it has an SPF of 15 which is more than enough for every day outings, but apart from this added extra, offers the same benefits as the original.
Nothing is that 100 % wonderful though, and of course TE does have a negative side - the price for one. At 18 pounds a shot it's hardly pocket money price, but as other raters have said, it is worth it for the quality, and the fact it lasts that long. My suggestion? Look for it in cheap shops, or stock up whilst on holiday as here in mainland Europe it costs slightly less - on average 12 pounds per bottle, sometimes less due to exchange rate fluctuations. Each bottle comes with a hygiene-sealed pump, so as long as you don’t break the cover off until you want to use it, you can store the bottles for a long time.

Advantages: It appears to mosturise very well. It makes your skin feel alive again! Disadvantages: Very expensive and its claims may be wide of the mark.
