After an unusually hefty pay packet, I found myself in Boots trawling the aisles for all the usual boring stuff. I had never been a huge advocate of facial moisturising, but had seen ads for Olay's Total Effects. When I saw it sitting there at eye level I decided I was worth the £18 and would treat myself. It is quite a lot to spend on a very small container, but I quickly found out you only need a tiny splodge to moisturise your whole face. Even though I bought the fragrance-free version, it still has quite a strong smell, but I actually came to really like it. The pump-action dispenser means you don't end up with far more than you need and the thick cream smooths on very easily.
I noticed the difference within a matter of days. My skin seemed smoother and healthier, and definitely more hydrated. The effects of heavy nights out and too much alcohol weren't entirely negated but were certainly reduced, and it makes a great base for make-up. I'm still highly cynical about the Total Effects anti-ageing claims (if we get old, we get old - right?) but in terms of day-to-day looks I was impressed.
Because I don't have extensive moisturising experience I can't really compare Total Effects to a wide range of other creams, but I was still surprised and pleased with the outcome. I have tried a few other, cheaper moisturisers since my first encounter (I still fell almost £19 is wildly extravagant) but none have quite lived up to expectations. I am just having to cut back on some other luxuries to keep up my habit!
