Time can be very cruel, I had good skin as a teenager but I had two wonderful boys and things have gone pear shaped over the years!
As I’ve gotten older my skin has become quite dry and incredibly sensitive, the slightest thing will set it off and I’m presented with a blotchy mess that takes days to recuperate. With this thought in mind, it was quite difficult to choose a moisturizer that would make my dull skin look and feel more alive.
I was fortunate enough to receive an Olaygift set for Christmas and it contained, amongst other things, a small sample tube of Olay Total Effects. So, with a little trepidation, I gave it a try for a week!
*** Packaging ***
Olay Total Effects is packaged fairly simply in a black box with the Olay logo in gold. The actual moisturizer container is quite ingenious, the pump is ‘horn shaped’ and the lid is clear Perspex, which protects the product from contamination (at least, that’s what I believe it’s designed for!). There is a list of ingredients on the back of the bottle, which tells you that it contains an exclusive formulation called ‘VitaNiacin’.
***Olay’s Claims and Does it Work? ***
Olay Total Effects claim to ‘fight the seven signs of aging’, I don’t honestly remember all the signs but the most obvious ones are dry skin, a sallow complexion, enlarged pores and lines!
Now the true test of any moisturizer is whether it works or not and I found that this one actually did!
The creamy texture of the pinky colored lotion was easily absorbed into my skin and it didn’t look or feel greasy and a little goes a long way, just one squirt from the pump was more than sufficient to moisturize my face and neck! My dry skin does feel much softer and my complexion is more radiant (I don’t look like death warmed over anymore). I’ve never really had a major problem with enlarged pores although I have noticed that my skin appears to be more refined so I guess my pores were a bit bigger than they were supposed to be!
The lines on my face (they’re very tiny, honest!) don’t seem to be that different but I’m hoping that with continued usage they will diminish and not be anymore noticeable than they are now.
*** Overall Impressions ***
Despite being an expensive product at £13.00 to £14.00 a bottle that contains just 1.7 fl oz (50mls) of moisturizer I like it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who has sensitive skin! Although I bought mine on base, I know you can buy it almost anywhere and have seen it in Tesco’s for the price I’ve mentioned.
I’m a firm believer in that you get what you pay for and this is a quality product. I have used Olay virtually all my adult life but found the traditional lotion wasn’t enough anymore; it still left me with the occasional dry patch and certainly didn’t do anything to help combat Father Time!
With Mother’s Day coming up, this may just be the thing to buy and I’m fairly sure that it would be highly appreciated (I know I’d be happy to receive it)!

doesn;t do much for me. The wrinkles are a feature of my face now.

I was on the initial launch of this range, and I am pleased you found it good - its launch price was £18! I agree with you about the quality - what a difference to the olay liquid!
