Oil of Ulay has been around forever. I remember seeing their basic hand and face creams on my mum's dressing table when I was a nipper. The stuff was always a lurid pink then and had a very strong smell, but to me it was glamour incarnate.
Except it's not Oil of Ulay now, it's Oil of Olay. Apparently this has always been its name on the continent, and they thought it was time to bring us in line.
It's not bright pink any more either, and it's not just hand and face cream. Nowadays Olay do a massive range of skincare products and make-up to suit every type of skin and colouring.
Now, I'm a Lancome girl through and through, but finding myself rather skint lately (the joys of buying and completely refurbishing a house), I decided it was time to economise and try something considerably less pricey.
'Touch' moisturiser comes with or without sun-protection. I chose with, and the SPF factor is 15. It is suitable for all skin types.
What attracted me was the blurb about the 'sensory feel'. Previously I'd used Lancome Hydra Zen, which made my skin feel like velvet, and this seemed to promise something similar.
The lotion is quite light and goes on easily. After a minute it is completely absorbed by my normal skin (I don't use it on my oily t-zone) and leaves it feeling very soft and silky without being overloaded or giving me that dreaded shine. It does not irritate my skin at all, and has a subtle flowery smell that is very pleasant.
Compared to the Lancome, it is not as good, but it is ALMOST as good. And when you consider that the Olay is 9.99 for 100 ml and the Lancome is £25+, I have to recommend it as a good buy.
The facewash was £3.99. It comes in a 150 ml tube. To use, wet face first. Then put a 10p sized squirt of facewash on your hands and rub over the face. A lovely, rich and creamy lather develops, which then rinses clean away with water.
The facewash is very effective and has the same subtle flowery smell as the moisturiser. It removes all make-up (including my waterproof mascara) and leaves my skin feeling soft and not at all tight. Again I've had no sensitive reactions at all.
By buying Olay instead of Lancome I saved myself over £20 and the results are very very close.
I will certainly carry on buying Olay now that I'm a mortgage-paying pauper and intend to investigate their other products a.s.a.p.
Prices are what I paid at Boots, but I've since seen both items quite a bit cheaper in discount chemists/beauty shops, so do shop around.

I'm also an Ulay - oh I mean Olay fan (why the name change?). A decent penny saver in the long run - ooohhh but I do love my Clarins as well! - Jules
