The origins of the old english sheepdog are dated back a couple of hundred years ago. They where breed primarily as a drover and herding dog. It is thought that they have common ancesters with the bearded collie. One rumour is that they where bred in the west country, others say that they have descended from european sheepdogs. They are a working breed.
In America the oes is known as a bob tail as they have the tail docked at birth. (Meg, my oes ... ...whether this should be happening) One of the main reason tails where docked on many breeds was a few hundred years ago there was a tax on all tailed breeds. So to get around this, tails were docked at about 3 days old. Usually the 3 ligament (joint) down.
Generally as a pet the oes is very docile, very protective of their owner and children. But are hyper active, excitable and can be destructive.

...it is in fact a old english sheepdog. Nice and clean looking! Well now we have a old english sheepdog puppy well i say puppy but shes a year old now. Still hyper as hell and acts like a big baby. She is dopey ,gormless and looks like she has been rolling around in dogs Pooh but couldn't imagine it without her. And if any burglars was to break in well we would be buggered shes scared of the hamster so what hope have we got hey!
And shes always in ... ...Before getting a old english well I suppose before getting any dog or animal there is many key factors to consider.
* Do you have the time and space to be able to fully look after the pet. * Do you have little kids and therefore trust a big dog with them
* Do you know about the dogs temperament and also do you know how big the dog will get
