Manchester United have, for some time now been at the for-front of the English footballing scene, but as change looms for Manchester United; can they maintain it?
The last few seasons, notably when they won the European cup, the league and FA cups, have sort have reached a peak, performance wise and now they seem to be on a freefall down. This season, the 2001/2002 season being the last for Alex Ferguson’s, is this the end?
In my opinion I haven’t seen them any worse in the 13 years I have supported them, which isn’t looking to promising.
So where is it going wrong, or right?
**DEFENCE**
Over the years Manchester United have had the best defence, Peter Schmeical (Hope I have spelled it right) in goals, companied by some good defenders liked Gary and Phil Neville, Denis Irwin, Ronny Johnson and Jaap Stam.
Notable Jaap Stam has now left, a massive mistake in my opinion, yes the Defence needs improving, but to get rid of the best defender, something’s not right. Especially when every match I seem to what Man Utd. Just seem to concede sloppy early goals and put themselves in impossible situations.
Blanc is just too old and slow, sorry he just won’t doo.
**MIDFIELD**
Another excellent part of the team, a bit different to the defence, being that the Midfield aspects of the teams has been improving, mostly during this season.
The Middlefield of Manchester United is so good because you have the best wingers in the world Giggs and Beckham, coupled with skill and determination in Roy Keane Veron and Scholes going through the center. Veron being a very good singing, strengthening the midfield further, also adding skill and technique to the team.
**ATTACK**
Attacking has always been what Manchester United is all about, it always been good but not as good as when Man Utd. Won the treble. The best partnership seemed to be with York and Cole but that only lasted about 2 seasons at most.
The current partnership of Van nielsteroy and Schools or Cole seems to be working good, and Nielstroy will get gaols, but it just doesn’t seem as good as it should be.
**SUBSTITUTIONS**
Manchester United have some of the best substitutions in the country, it amazing how Alex Ferguson has keep them all happy. Quality players like Solskaer, Cole, York to name a few who all spend time on the bench. Having a good range of substitutions enables the manager to rest needed players for big occasions.
Please take my apolgies to make incompetance to spell the playername, those with support football will no what I mean.
Let’s hope that things pick up, but sorry that I can see the European cup coming to Manchester this year…
