Advantages: Excellent crystal clear recordings. inc B sides and rarities Disadvantages: slightly twee perhaps, not for your average rock fan
I picked up this CD because I was looking for an anthology of an obscure, underrated 60's group, and also because I was rather taken with the pretty cover!! I already knew the song 'I Can't Let Maggie Go' so I thought it was definitely worth a listen. I soon discovered that they had plenty more brilliant songs under
their sleeves, which, madly, have been virtually ignored by the record buying public. WHY????
Their sound is a blend of soft rock ... ...as nearly every track on this anthology has a pronounced string arrangement along
with oboe.
It is difficult to say who they most remind me of -there is obviously a Beatles influence there, and I get a Buffalo Springfield vibe on the more rocky number 'the Breaking Up Scene.' Also elements of Clifford T Ward!!, of which I'll speak of a little later!!
From reading the inside notes, the lead singer and writer, Pete

Advantages: Some classic songs in stero; some bonus tracks Disadvantages: Missing most of their classic tracks; too many fillers
This is a whole lot of Monkees for the money. Whether it is value for money or not is a personal opinion. No surprises that the DVD opens with the familiar happy-go-lucky Monkees theme tune. This is followed on by several personal favourites including ... ...an alternative version of the theme tune and mono versions of some of the songs in stereo such as "Last Train to Clarkesville". Fillers? Depends on how much of a Monkees completist you want to be. Certainly not sure that you need the third version of it that's on it for sure. There are a few previously unreleased tracks such as "Propinquity". Having heard it there may be a good reason why it was unreleased.
I adore the Monkees but to be honest I ...

Advantages: Great Live recording and excellent tracks Disadvantages: Final song fades out too soon
...in my CD player at the same time as boy band music and cheesy 80's pop. I'm particularly fond of Soul, Motown & Funk with a healthy dollop of Disco thrown in. My latest addition to my CD collection, in the disco/funk feel at least, is The Kool & The Gang Collection and it was an absolute bargain at £2 from my local Somerfield store, it can also be found on Amazon for £5.99 new or from 59p Used.
The Kool & The Gang Collection is a 13 track CD featuring ... ...collection bought to life by the fact that it is recorded live, you get a real concert sound with none of the over produced instrument sound and no tweaked vocals that you would find on studio produced work, you are also treated to the banter of the band and crowd interaction, giving the feel that you could actually be there at the concert. The songs for the most part flow from one to the next with no discernable gaps in between tracks, it's only ...
