Olympus 2GB xD Picture Card

A brilliant card with plenty of capacity

Advantages: more than enough photos
Disadvantages: only really useable in cameras

a trip and i have no problems taking hundreds of photos and a few minutes of video, without having to sift through them deleting the ones i am unsure about, becasue i have no space left. The card is also very quick to read (my camera) so that poses no problems although my camera is olympus so if it was another brand it may be a bit slower. The only disadvantage about this card is, is that it can only be used in my camera, unlike my SD card which can be used in my PDA and phone. Finally cost, on the high street from such retailers as Dixons you can expect to pay 35 pounds. However over the internet you can easily knock 15 pounds off that and even more if you look hard enough. ...

This will seem small beer in a few years time

Advantages: Huge capacity, tiny format
Disadvantages: Olympus own-brand are sold at a premium

At 20 × 25 × 1.7mm, xD is one of the smallest 'mainstream' memory formats - the specification currently offers up to one gigabyte of storage, although not all xD enabled Olympus cameras (mainly the older ones) support up to this amount of storage! The main difference between Olympus cards, and Fuji ones is that the former offers 'panorama' picture mode to be used on their cameras. This comes at a slight premium, so if yours is a Fuji - there's precious little point in buying them! Why would you want as much as a gigabyte of storage? - well - at the highest resolution, my 1Gb card in my C-8080 Wide Zoom camera (at highest resolution uncompressed RAW format) offers up to 87 pictures, although the lowest resolution format allows 9999 shots! - In video mode, nearly three ...

100s of pictures in the size of a postage stamp!

Advantages: Tiny, huge storage capacities, fast transfer rates, low power consumption
Disadvantages: Not as popular as other memory formats, more expensive
