One more high quality, and reliable product that performs up to its name for which I am most happy to write a review for. (I expect I will write a review one day on a product I DONT like, but its more fun telling everyone about the SUPERIOR items that are worth buying.)
Breathe easy folks, as there is absolutely no story to go along with this review, as we only happened to be in a computer store about two years ago, (a daily occurence with my Mr. Gadget hubby and son), when we decided it was time to buy a digital camera.

That is the technical jargon, lets go now to the practical.
This camera is very lightweight, and comes with a handy strap and a nice black pouch to carry it about it. It is quite heavy on battery usage, I must admit, but at least it DOES have an energy saving front cover, that when closed, automatically switches the camera off. Taking wonderful pictures could not be easier. You literally just point and click, even the built-in flash decides what the skies are like, and only flashes when necessary (either that or I have never noticed it in the bright light, but I know I do not have to turn the flash on or off for piccies). On the back of the camera there is a nice but not overly-large, screen from which to view that which you want to snap. I have to say, I am not as gadget happy as my son or my husband, and so I have not tried to learn all the functions of this camera. However, that being considered, I do find it quite easy to use for the basic functions. Also, once learned, it is quite easy to tell someone WHAT to do, to get the camera to function in whatever mode you are asking of it. For example, it takes video. I do not know how to do this, but my hubby has done it. I am not overly impressed with this function though. As, it is choppy, grainy, and nothing to write home about. At least I did not buy it for this feature. Instead I have a VIDEO RECORDER for this function. Some very nice features on this camera are, the media smart chip, which slides right into our computer for instant viewing, AND it holds up to 100 pictures which can be deleted as required instantly. In other words, if you are on holiday, and you have spent the day taking pictures, you can sit down at the end of the day, look through the little screen to see your selection, and delete the ones you are not too keen on. This way you never have to worry about ppl seeing unwanted photos! You will NOT however find yourself erasing 'bad' photos, as this camera takes very clear and beautiful pictures. I don't take pictures professionally, or even very often for that matter, but I do like the results from this camera when I do! I also find that this camear seems to have a long range. Whenever I take a piccy at distance, and worry that maybe the object was too far away, I find that it always comes out just right on the picture.
There is one bad thing about this camera, which is not really its fault but my own. Because I can slide this smart media chip right in my computer to view my piccies, I do find that I can't be asked to get the piccies developed onto hard copy. This was especially sad, when our computer crashed a couple months ago, and I had not saved the piccies on a disc. You really should back the piccies up on disc if you aren't going to have them printed straight away. But, the good news is, they have come out with a PHOTO quality printer (which I am trying to nag the hubby into buying), which actually uses phot paper to print 'supposedly' high quality photos!
In all, WELL WORTH THE COST. You will be very pleased with this camera. Though we have had ours over two years I have found no need to upgrade it in any way! It seems to have everything we need and want in a camera. And as always, IT HAS NEVER malfunctioned or broken down!
One final note, the picture that I have posted of myself on this site, was taken on holiday two weeks ago by my 8 year old son. I would call that pretty clear photography and DEFINITELY pretty easy to use.

OLYMPUS - 'CAMEDIA' C-100 digital camera .
Why this one ?
Our Residents Association has gone from strength to strength , and with an Awards for all Wales Lottery Grant available for IT equipment amongst other things , we decided to purchase a new PC system , c/w priter , scanner and digital camera .
Being in charge , I checked out the various local retailers to see what was on offer in the camera range . Boy oh boy are there lots to choose from ... ...eye was the C-100 from Olympus , which was of similar proportions and weight to a standard 35mm point and click camera . The average price for this was £145.00 , and with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels was on a par with the rest , yet a good £35.00 lower than the nearest equivilents .

...my surprise to receive the Olympus C100 as a present! I must confess I was looking at spending 300GBP or so on a camera with a 2-3million pixel capability, but was impressed with the quality of the C100 which is a 1.3 million pixel camera.
I have found that the picture quality is excellent and I really cannot see that there is any need to spend an extra few hundred pounds for the extra pixels. I have a friend who works for a newspaper advertising ... ...the adverts.
The camera is very easy to use. Open the lens cover and point and shoot. The camera has an LCD screen which allows you to view the picture you have just taken immediately and if you don't like it you can delete it. You can also use the screen to line up your pictures before you take them, like a small TV monitor.
An added feature is the ability to take 1 minute of vidoe footage. However as the flash does not work in this mode and there ...

I have had my Olympus c100 for over a year now and its great.
Its so easy to use,just point and shoot, you see the picture almost instantly so if you dont like it just take another.
There is four picture quality settings:
SQH = 1280X960 BEST QUALITY
HQ = 1280X960 ALMOST AS GOOD
SQ1 = 1024X768 GOOD QUALITY
SQ2 = NOT GREAT AT THIS SETTING
There is also four zoom settings: 1.6x,2.0x,3.2x and 4.0x but you can only get all four on the lowest quality ... ...which i find a little annoying when I want a good quality pic from a distance.
There are various settings for flash,red eye etc.
I have found that on SQ1 with a 64MB smart media card I can get up to 300 pictures which would cost a fortune in film processing charges not to mention the price of the films in the first place.
The USB connection makes it really easy to download your pictures to your pc where you can view them and choose which ones ...

I CANT BELIEVE HOW LONG THIS CAMERA HAS LASTED
I have had this camera for over 5 years and it still takes amazing photos. When i bought it it was £150 but it is so much cheaper now and well worth buying. I have taken it everywhere with me, numerously dropped it and even got it covered in sand at a beach and it has still survived.
My friends always complain that their cameras have way more mega pixels than mine but mine takes much better photos.

OLYMPUS - 'CAMEDIA' C-170 digital camera .
~ Why this one ? ~
Having previously had experience of an Olympus digital camera ( CamediaC100 ) which was stolen , I had tried a few others some with success , some without , but once again I was now on the lookout for a reasonably priced entry level digital camera that the whole family could use .
Whilst looking , what did catch my eye was the C-170 from Olympus , which was of similar proportions and weight to a standard 35mm point and click camera . The price for this was a mere £79.95 , from Jessops ( usually retails at £99.95 ) and with a resolution of 4.0 megapixels is slightly above par compared with the rest of todays entry level digital cameras .

The OlympusCamediaC ? 150 is in my opinion a step back wards for Olympus.
One of the previous cameras to this is the C ? 100, and to be honest, I use this camera mostly with the new one as a back up.
The C ? 150 comes with almost identical features, and options as the previous, but looks more stylish, is more comfortable to hold, is to an extent easier to use and takes less batteries. Also it is 2.0 Mega pixel rather then 1.3 mega pixels of the C ? 100.
The lens is bright, and has a large 1.8 Inch LCD monitor for convenience.
It has a self-timer facility, which gives you plenty of time to set it and run into position.
The camera has Sepia option, which means you can take photos in black and white. There are four scene programs so the user can easily find the right setting for different subjects, and different lights ...

A broad range of variable camera adjustments and six flash modes can be selected to suit shooting conditions. One feature guaranteed to arouse enthusiasm is the panorama function conceived for - among other purposes - extraordinary landscape photography. By joining numerous individual shots taken from slightly different angles, it is possible to create a single panorama image that reveals a completely new view of the subject. The user-friendly menu assures effortless and precise camera operation. The TFT LCD informs the photographer about more than the current date, exact time and the chosen shooting parameters. It also allows immediate review and presentation of the picture just taken. The user can delete unwanted shots straightaway. Olympus provides the C-100 with a precise lens. Thanks to its digital zoom function, however, the subject can be enlarged up to four times. With the movie function, short action sequences can be captured at a speed of 15 frames per second. The camera stores picture files plus additional information (e.g., printing instructions for a photo lab, if required) onto a SmartMedia card. When the card is full, it can be changed in a matter of seconds. In comparison with the other CAMEDIA models, the C-100 also features an internal memory with capacity for up to seven SQ images. Thanks to USB compatibility, the camera can be automatically recognized as an external drive when connected to a computer or notebook. That is why copying the digital shots onto the hard drive for editing or mailing is just as quick and easy as transferring files from a CD.
