of the cost of original manufacturers and can be used in many makes and models of digital device. Rechargeable digital batteries are rated in "mAh" which stands for "milli-ampere hours". This rating is used to state the storage capability of a battery, e.g. a 1000mAh battery would be capable of delivering 1000mA of current consistently for one hour whereas a 2000mAh battery would deliver the same 1000mA of current for two hours. Whilst scouring the Ciao pages I found my eyes drawn to the Mega Competition! I know that all you people are now thinking “ Ha only for the money!” but who can resist a little healthy competition! I’ve just spent the last 2 days doing this op and Im hoping it will be my best ever! Be kind!
Now Im going to give you the complete ins and outs, the good the bad and the highs and lows of this little beauty. My dad originally brought it as our last digital camera broke and we got the money back. Although my dad bought it, I am the one who get the play around with it! If I didn’t the dust would gather and a right waste have money would have been the case. I’ve had the camera for a few months now, so here goes!

** Shooting Pictures (Using Monitor and Viewfinder) **
Now because it’s a clever little camera it has a couple of ways of taking a picy! And it has a few nifty features to help! The first and perhaps easiest is using the viewfinder. Simply open the shutter on the front, look through the viewfinder and click the shutter button! And there you have it, a simple yet great looking picture! But Being that we’re in the 21st century there is always some thing to complicate you! If you only press the shutter half way down, then you will make a little green light come on. If it comes on and stays on it means that the camera has automatically got the image you are looking at in focus and you are ready to shoot. But if it starts blinking at you it means that the camera has not been able to get the subject in focus and that you need to half press again. This is a great little feature! If you press the shutter button down a bit further you will take a pic!
The alternative to using the viewfinder is using the monitor. Simply open the shutter and then turn on the monitor. Turning on the monitor is easy. All you have to do is hold the ‘Monitor On’ button. You look at the monitor instead of looking at through the viewfinder. Half press the shutter button to get the subject in focus then press it down all the way at there’s your pic! Your picture will be displayed on the monitor for a few seconds and then it will disappear. Here you have the choice whether to keep the picture or to discard it. When you take a picture using the monitor a little orange light will come on. It will stay lit for a moment and then disappear. It doesn’t mean anything so just ignore it!
But how do you know when to use the viewfinder or the monitor? This is a good question. If your subject is further that 1.5 meters away when use the viewfinder. This kind of shot would be of a landscape. If you want to do a close-up of an object or person then it doesn’t really matter which you use. I personally much prefer to use the monitor as it gives you the picture in brilliant colour and that you get to see a preview of the picture before it is saved. The only bad thing with the monitor is if you move the camera quickly, like for a moving shot, the monitor will go blurred. It’s a bit slow but give it a chance! And there you have it, how to take quality pictures.
If you use the monitor a lot of little symbols will soon invade it! About a dozen symbols will be displayed at a time. If I explained all of them id be here for days so im just going to write a list.
1. Number of images left 2. Battery Life 3. Image Quality 4. Flash Mode 5. Drive Mode 6. Self-timer 7. Digital zoom 8. White balance
** Image Quality **
There are three types of image quality on the camera. Before you all wack up the quality to best, I must warn you that the higher the quality the less pictures you can take. This is because the higher the quality the bigger the file. Let me introduce you to our 3 contestants:
Standard Quality – You this quality is you want lot of images available. If you want to print out you images (of course we want those mug shots!) then use a higher quality. This quality is really for images left on the computer, or sent by email. The benefit is you get about 82 shots.
High Quality – this is the default quality on the camera. It is a great middleman between SQ and SHQ. This quality is best if you want to print out those ugly mugs and still have a high number or pictures left. With this mode you can take approx. 24 shots. This is the best mode for really, unless you are taking a few pictures, then you would want SHQ.
Super-High Quality – use this quality is you are only wanting a few pictures. This is very high quality and you pictures will look great! With this mode you can take approx. 8 shots.
Changing the image quality is easy. Simply go into the menu on the monitor, the scroll down until you find the picture quality. Then change it to suit your needs.
** Zooming in **
This is a great help if you are quite a distance away from the subject you want a picture of. For example a flying bird may require a zoom in to get a good shot. Using the zoom makes the image 2X closer.
1X = 35mm lens – This is really the equivalent of taking a picture with a standard compact camera. 2X = 70 mm lens - This is the equivalent of using a 70mm lens!
There is not really a lot more I can tell you about zoom except I use this all the time!
** Using the Flash **
The flash is ideal when there are poor light conditions or if you are using a strong backlight. There are five different flash modes and all have there own unique properties. They are:
Auto – In this mode the flash is automatically turned on by the camera in low light. This is the standard on the camera. This is the easiest to use and is one I use a lot. Although using the flash may give your subjects red eyes.
Red-Eye Reductions Flash – When you use a flash the people in it may get red eyes. Using the Red-Eye Reductions Flash you reduce the likely hood of red eyes. Although it doesn’t always work.
Fill-in flash – if you are in poor light conditions for a long time then I would recommend using the Fill-in flash. This mode will use the flash with every image taken.
Night Scene – the name of this mode kinda give the game away! Use this if you are shooting at night.
Flash off – Does it really need explaining?!
** Making the most **
Once you have taken all your pictures there are plenty of things you can do with it. Using a video cable you can view the images on you television. There is a cable provided for this. Other wise you can simply use your Pc. I would recommend buying a FlashPath Floppy disc adapter for easy transfer from camera to Pc. This is a floppy disc. You attach you Smart Card to it and use the Floppy disc drive to transfer you images.
There are a lot of other things that I could witter on about but that would make it incredibly long and boring! I leave you with parts of the specification:
Dimensions: 110 (W) x 62 (H) x 34 (D) mm Weight: approx. 165g Pixels: 1280x960 (High and Super High Quality) 640x480 (Standad Quality) Price: £150-£200
Thank you for reading! Is this worth a diamond award?

I will mention this battery again as I was disappointed that it states non-rechargeable on the side, yet the camera has DC in 3V socket but no power lead was supplied… a bit of corner cutting here I fear.

...missus`s catalogue I noticed the Olympus C1 USB. After reading the specs, I decided to go ahead and buy it.
The camera is silver coloured and quite light (you have to remember it`s in your pocket) and has a built in flash BUT no optical zoom features. It connects to the PC via a supplied USB cable and installation of the drivers in Win98/XP is very painless. The camera is powered up by sliding the lens cover to onside, and after a couple of seconds ... ...very reasonable pictures, but at high quality resolution (when viewing at 1:1 on my PC) I have noticed that the pictures have a `snowy` effect. Once they`ve been reduced in size this disappears, but it`s a little irksome. This cannot be seen on the LCD because of the small size. A very good thing about this camera is that it doesn`t seem to be power hungry, as I`ve yet to change the batteries after quite some use.
The one major bug is the supplied ...

The Olympus Camedia C-1 is an excellent camera and well within budget at between £150-175 (don't know the exact amount, it was a present!)
It has a 1.31 Megapixel matrix. Its small enough to fit into your pocket. The camera is switched on by moving the lens cover. I have owned one of these cameras since christmas, it was a present. I couldn't wait to start taking pictures, so I took some of my dog, the old standby, and guess what?, the software supplied wouldn't recognise the camera! After reading and re-reading the manual, I was still no nearer a solution. I decided then to try using my existing software to download the photos and tried adobe photodeluxe. The large sliding lens cover also covers the flash, viewfinder and self timer lamp, and is the on switch to shooting mode. A usb lead is included ...

Advantages: Inexpensive, No drivers required (For XP), Good quality Disadvantages: Eats alkaline batterys, rechargeables a must, only 8MB memory included
I've never owned a camera. I've always been put off by the ongoing expense of film and developing, so when digital cameras became popular, I was interested. I got this little number from PC World for £99 and it's worth every penny. Fair enough, it's only a 1.3 megapixel, and some might say that isn't good enough, but in my opinion, it's fine, as long as the pictures are printed out at around 4x6 inches.
The camera itself is very simple to use straight ... ...are clear and informative, and help you to understand how do delete pictures and change flash mode etc. I use Windows XP, which has bulit in support for this model. Just connect your USB cable and you are given a choice of print, copy to My Computer or view pictures. Very easy to use. On the downside, it is very heavy on batteries. The supplied lithium cell gives you a good service. Around 100 photos taken, and viewed on LCD screen almost constantly. ...

Introduction
-----------------
Although I don't have a digital camera at home, we have one at work and I can use it whenever I want, which suits me nicely. We bought the OlympusC-1 Zoom in September 2001 from Jessops (the high street camera store) in Manchester for £280, which was the cheapest we could find at the time (including most of the internet stores I think). At the same time we also bought a 16 MB SmartMedia card for £15, a battery charger for £13, and a carry case which Jessops chucked in for free (nice one).
The following bits are included in the box:
Camera - obviously
Strap
Software CD-ROM
USB PC Cable
Video Cable (PAL)
8 MB SmartMedia card
Lithium Battery Pack
Instruction Manuals
Warranty Card

Advantages: good quality photos Disadvantages: delay with taking photos
At first I was unsure about this camera as it is a little dated now and is rather big, but I soon realised it was aideal for my first digital camera. Olympus are a good make to begin with. This camera has a good zoom feature and a bright flash, meaning even dark photo's can come out OK. It may only have 1.3 megapixels - which today is less than alot of mobile phones, but photos can be printed off perfectly in 6x4 of 7x5. The memory card for the camera comes in varying sizes or 8mb 16mb and 32mb and fit into most card readers or kodak machines. The camera has different flash setting and a timer mode. Come with a TV connection lead - allowin photo's to be viewed in large scale forms and a PC usb cable if you don't have a card reader. The battery life doesn't last very long and there is a noticable delay with taking pictures, but this is ...
Advantages: ease of use Disadvantages: battery life poor
This a short report on the OlympuscamediaC-830L digital camera. Free with certain computers such as Tiny, or buy it new for around £150 (and dropping!). The camera has 1.3 million pixels and the picture quality is as good as you would want from any camera. Easy to use and with the program supplied is very easy to download the photos onto your computer. What fun it is as you do not have to worry about paying to develop films etc. The quality of the end product does depend on the copy paper being used and photo quality paper can work out expensive, so try out your pictures on a cheaper paper, to ensure you really want to print that picture. The down side to the camera is that the batteries last no time at all, if you take the camera out with you make sure you have plenty of spare batteries. ...
The CAMEDIA C-1 was created in response to the growing popularity of digital photography. This camera is designed to offer superb image quality, yet be so easy to operate that even first-time users can enjoy carefree digital shooting. Its user-friendly simplicity and portability make it a camera that people can take anywhere, and use anytime. The CAMEDIA C-1 automatically switches on when the lens barrier is opened. It boasts full-auto operation that allows users to obtain high-quality images simply by aiming the camera and pressing the shutter button, and the number of control buttons has been kept to a minimum to simplify operation as much as possible. The camera's body is slim, light and compact, and features a sliding, egg-shaped lens barrier that accents the cameras stylish design. The flat, protuberance-free body and sliding lens barrier also make it easy for users to carry the camera in their pocket or handbag, and take beautiful pictures at a moment's notice. Two aspherical glass lens elements are incorporated into the bright, F2.8 lens. As a result, the lens is extremely compact, yet it offers high resolving power that maximizes the performance potential of the camera's 1.31-megapixel CCD. In addition, users can obtain superior image quality even when shooting smaller-sized images for on-screen/Web display or transmission as e-mail attachments, because advanced TruePic technology ensures that the full range of pixel data is incorporated into all images, regardless of size. The CAMEDIA C-1 is equipped with a built-in LCD color monitor that can be used to view the subject when shooting, and to display images after they have been taken. It also comes with everything users need to begin using the camera right away!
