I purchased my camera via the internet (£291) and got a great discount on high street prices, I saved about £60.00 so I would say trawl the internet first before buying in the high street.
The camera is a 4-mega-pixel model and the photographs I have taken to date have been outstanding using the auto facility on the camera. The more experienced can find many features to tweak the photographs to get that professional look. The one feature I found really interesting was the super macro mode, which lets you focus down to 2cm from the lens and gives some stunning close ups. The photos load on to the computer via the USB port and its very fast so I wont be buying a separate card reader for the smartmedia card. The menus for all the features are shown on the viewing screen at the back of the camera and are easy to use and there are several preset set-ups for various types of photo, such as scenes, portraits, night shots etc. The camera has a nice feel to it and is not so small that hands get in the way.
The camera comes with a disappointing 16MB storage card, which means that in the highest recording TIFF mode it will only store one frame, however this is up to 76 frames in the lowest JPEG recording mode. There are available 128MB cards, which are about £45. You can get none Olympus cards slightly cheaper, but these do not accommodate the panorama feature offered by the camera. It also comes with 4 AA batteries, which I soon found lasted about a day and so I invested in a set of chargeable batteries and a fast 1 hour charger (£30). The lens cover is a bit plasticy and has to be removed before switching the camera on, which I dont always remember to do and the camera does bleep and grind a bit. The manual is a bit basic and could give more detailed information and the free software is quite useless. I use Photoshop 5 LE or the free from the web Infranveiw depending on what I want to do.
Overall for the price I paid the features available and the quality of the pictures I would say this camera in this price range is one to consider.
