I'm very excited to have this flagship DSLR camera with me. E3 may just be the best choice for those shooting in harsh conditions and its strength lies in areas of auto focus, implementation of live view, dust reduction and environmental sealing. The Olympus E-3 is really more better and comparable to the cameras by Olympus's competitors that we've been categorizing as semi-pro,such as the Pentax K10D, Canon 40D, and Nikon D200.With the E-3, Olympus introduces their first new autofocus sensor in years. Advantages: Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options Disadvantages: Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
The E-30 is Olympus's own stepping-stone between the so-called "prosumer" models (what an awful word) and the E-3 professional SLR, being loosely comparable with the likes of the Canon EOS 50D, the Nikon D90 and the Sony Alpha A-350. It shares a lot of the E-3's features and has even overtaken the E-3 in terms of resolution, offering 12mp compared with the E-3's 10.
Unfortunately - or fortunately, depending on your opinion - some of its features are things that serious photographers don't really want on their cameras and definitely push the E-30 towards the hobby photographers rather than the professionals.
The E-30 doesn't share the E-3's weatherproof casing, in fact it is built from a plastic/fibre-glass composite material, which helps to keep the weight down and, surprisingly to me, doesn't make it feel cheap.
It does look ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Olympus E-30
Advantages: Super clear prints and so similar to an SLR the transition is easy Disadvantages: Price/size but will not worry an enthusiast.
Having been an owner for 30 years of Olympus SLR Cameras including the OM10 and the OM2Spot(currently in my possession) I was attracted to the E10 Olympus Camera with its 4.3million pixels. My previous digital camera comprised 1.3 million pixels and produced quite good photos. The E10 has produced phenomenal photos of the Eden project here in Cornwall including a metre long panorama which has been sold to a local public house- framed and now on the restaurant wall. I have a superb A3 Epson print of Truro cathedral and a fantastic print of the Fowey Training School yacht in full sail. This camera though it cost £1249 from Jessops has given me the biggest pleasure I have ever received from photography. I have just been to a wedding and can claim to have outclassed the professional photographer- I could check my photos as I went! I also ...
Advantages: High quality pictures Disadvantages: slow turn on time and slow processing time
I have now owned my OlympusE20P for almost 3 years and have used it in extremely harsh conditions including several desert expeditions and diving trips. It has not let me down once and produces very high quality images. I rarely use the highest quality setting of "Tiff" as I can see little difference in the image quality from using the "SHQ" setting.
I have used both a 1Gb microdrive and a 512 Kb card, I now stick to the 512 card as it used less power and is more robust.
I also have the wide angle and telephoto screw on lens which, despite my initial doubts about screw ons, produce excellent images.
You should always take spare batteries - I use 2300 mAh Ni-MH batteries from Jessops as they last longer and are easy to charge.
My only complaints with the camera are that it takes a long time to switch on - about 10 seconds ...
With the E-3 Olympus has developed an impressive array of highly reliable new technologies essential for serious SLR photographers. Olympus cameras have a history of raising the bar when it comes to reliability, toughness and durability - and the E-3 takes it to a whole new level. The E-3 is equipped with a large optical viewfinder that provides 100 percent accurate viewing and 1.15x magnification for reliable composition - what you see is exactly what you'll get. Even fine details are seen with astonishing clarity. The E-3's large, precision-crafted pentaprism is crafted from high refractive index glass with a highly reflective silver coating. The eyepiece uses glass lenses. All the lenses are surface coated to maintain brightness. The focusing screen features a Neo Lumi-Micro Mat for bright, easy-to-adjust manual focusing.Spots on photos are now banished forever. The Olympus dust reduction system is an industry first and a proven technology. Every time you turn on the E-3, our Supersonic Wave Filter - located between the shutter and the image sensor - silently vibrates an amazing 30,000 times per second. Dust is blasted away. The dust reduction system even removes dust attached by intermolecular force that can't be shaken off or discharged with static electricity. Dust will no longer get between you and a great shot.Shoot anywhere, anytime, in any condition. The E-3 body, the built-in flash and the LCD are all splashproof and dustproof. Constructed from a magnesium-alloy with a homogeneous composition, the E-3 is lightweight yet strong and rugged. The same goes for Zuiko Digital lenses. You'll find splashproof and dustproof models that are as tightly sealed as the camera. To ensure you can keep shooting, even at 5 frames per second, Olympus utilizes a durable shutter mechanism tested to 150,000 cycles making the E-3 the perfect choice for photographers who demand the most from their equipment, in any situation.
