Olympus E-510 10mp digital Slr camera 10MP
Price: £350-£550 (Highstreet winner on price - Jessops)
This is a great camera for both amateur & professional photographers, for those who like quality & variety at a great price then you can't go wrong with this piece of kit which is not only functional but is very easy to use.
You can use this camera straight from the box, it took me about an hour to become familiar with the many functions & settings but pretty easy to take a great shot every time.
For all of you ebay fanatics this camera has an auction function which automatically saves the picture for use in such a situation as well as giving you the choice of 3 images to choose from (the same image but with differences to the brightness/contrast, tone etc. this can save you hours on preparing web friendly images.
The camera has 20x zoom & an incredible 1cm macro feature so if it's detail that you want then this camera can handle it for sure, the lens is wider than many other digital cameras thus makes it a great choice for those who also take plenty of group or wide pictures (you can purchase additional lenses if you are looking to incorporate more long range shooting) personally I found that the 1cm macro function such a bonus that I would choose this camera over other cameras that offer an integrated higher zoom capacity. Remember you can add lenses but you can't increase the macro focus.
Lightweight yet durable & the batteries last more than long enough to see you through (make sure you unplug the camera from your pc or other device when you have finished uploading as it's easy to forget, this will drain the batteries. The camera takes x4 AA both rechargeable & standard, I used none rechargeable LR6 AA Industrial Alkaline batteries which lasted for a good 4 days but obviously it all depends on how you use the camera.
Downside: The only downside is that you will have to purchase a memory card (there isn't one included) and unless it is an Olympus XD you will not be able to use the panoramic function which I think is a bit of a shame, however this is really the only quibble that I have with this camera kit.
The list is endless for the modes available 18 scenic plus all of the various exposure & Creative choices you have, so I have kept this review simple.
Easy to use, price is fantastic for product quality & functionality, suitable for most situations & if not you can purchase additional accessories to make it more suitable. Product has lots of life in it for both amateur & professional photographers & can handle dynamic sporting shots as well as a complete wedding should you so wish. Capable of producing high quality images which can be printed upto 40x30" without compromising pixel quality.
Excellent all rounder & Highly Recommendable
More information including manuals can be found at the Olympus website. www.olympus.co.uk
I have included a couple of pictures taken with this camera.
The quartz cluster shown was taken with the auction setting and needed absolutely no work doing to it prior to putting the image onto the web, this can be of great benefit to many people & saves so much time.

Advantages: good photos quality, value for money Disadvantages: software, catching focus in dim light
...software coming with the camera: olympus master 2 - it stops working from time (consuming 100% CPU) to time and I have to restart it.
Another issue worth to mention is that this camera has a problem getting focus when the scene you want to shoot is not very well lit.
It also comes with 2 sets of high quality kit lens. You also need to remember buying it, that unlike many other DSLRs, which shoot photos in 3:2 format, this one shoots them in 4:3 ...

Advantages: IS, Senso protection, excellent kit lenses Disadvantages: Low light performance, AF not the best
...to wonder. With the Olympus E510, you pay less and you get more. Let me run through a few of what I have found to be its best features.
First, the sensor protection. No other camera in this bracket has that. Normally if you get a speck of dust on the sensor it stays there, appearing on all your pictures. That is until you risk damaging the camera cleaning it yourself or paying a fortune to have it done for you. The Olympus system has a filter keeping ... ...the Zuiko lens quality, the equal of anything out there, and you have a winning package.
It is true that the low light performance of Canon & Nikon are better than the Olympus in absolute terms, but actually, that's not important. I use ISO 800 regularly with excellent results ...

Advantages: Lightweight Disadvantages: no manual zoom
This camera is light weight, and quick to use. As a novice to the SLR I've found this really easy to just pick up. The automatic settings are simple and the instruction manual gives handy tips and advice how to use the manual settings.
I've had this Canera for about 4 months now and I can't believe some of the pictures I've taken with it. the manual zoom means that you have more control over your depth of field etc. lenses are eay to change and ...

Advantages: All weather build, great results Disadvantages: No remote
...I am planning to do some touring on my cycle and required a camera that not only
was lightweight and weather-proof but also took reasonable quality photos.
I used to take a Leica M4-P with a Summilux 35mm lens on such journeys
It requires no batteries and has been submerged in puddles more than once and survived.
However the cost of roll film is now a becoming drawback.
Digital photography has the main advantage of disposible imagery but the disadvantages of being subject to water damage and
always requiring battery power (when camping the opportunities for recharging are probably zero)
I already have an OlympusE-510 with a 14-54mm zoom lens that produces good quality pics, but is not puddle-proof.
It does use XD cards though so I already had some to use in the 1030SW - No card is supplied with the 1030SW
