Advantages Light weight, good design, great 2,7 inch display, internal flash, easy controls.
Disadvantages Can only use Olympic or Zuiko lenses
If you are checking the reviews to buy your next camera then I would like to advice to you that you go to a photographic shop and hold the different cameras in your hand and use it. This is how I picked my camera.
I was always a Canon user and liked the Canon cameras very much. I have read many reviews and got some good tips but finally decided to buy a Olympus E520 DSLR camera. I bought my camera with a 14-42 zoom lens but have since bought two other zoom lenses. I am now a proud user of a Olympus E520 for several years now. I did not regret my decision to switch over to the Olympus E520.
For me the following is important when you want to buy a camera. The looks of the camera. Most of the different makes of DLSR cameras are looking the same but to me some of the external features is important. You must have a good grip and when you hold the camera.
Therefore the grip is very important. When you hold it, it needs to be easy to take pictures and be easy to control it. When I tested some cameras some controls were difficult to reach. To use some of the controls it put some of my fingers in a very difficult position. It needs to fit in your hand easy and the shutter position needs to be just at the right place. The position of the shutter is important. It needs to be easy on the fingers., easy to control and to press down. This function is excellent as it is also used with the auto focus feature.
The view finder is important. This camera has a very good view finder. The focus options is excellent both through the view finder and the big display. You can also look at the nice big display to see your pictures.
Most of the controls are easy to use. The menu options are easy. The shutter tends to be slow when you use the camera in bad light conditions.
The position of the power on off switch was very important to me. It is out of the way and eliminate accidental depression. This eliminated some other DSLR Cameras.
The exposure control is just at the right place and it is easy to rotate. There are many options to choose from.
The options at the rear of the camera is very nicely situated and easy to use.
The battery lasts a long time and is much better than cameras which use alkaline batteries. I have bought a extra battery in the meantime.
I did not use an external flash yet as the internal flash is very effective in very difficult light conditions as long as it is within a 2 meter range.
Image stabilization is a great feature on this camera.
Lenses can be easily exchanged. I mostly use my zoom lenses. The 14-42 zoom lemse is not a good choise as a lens in my opinion but that depend for what purpose you want to use your camera. .
