Advantages: Could handle additional enhancement of the photos Disadvantages: Quite little expensive than the normal XD photo cards
...where built-in slots are installed for such memory stick or picturecard type. Unfortunately, I can not directly use the card to the memory slots in my Sony notebook for easy transfer without the use of USB drive and camera dock. Well, this is not a big issue.
LASTLY, this card also fits with my new imaging requirement which I could enhance the pictures using the panoramic and 3-dimentional (3D) features thru the Olympus Master companion software. However, for a 512MBpicturecard memory, it is highly recommended to have extra batteries as back-up especially when you are traveling in remote areas where power source is limited for charging and re-formatting. For normal shooting mode (not using the close-up and flash), the battery can take up to 150-200 photos, which means for a 512picturecard, I have to use the battery 2-3 times. Summary...

Advantages: Tiny, Large capacity Disadvantages: Easy to lose, more expensive than other formats
...XDPictureCards are a fairly recent introduction to the memory card market. Developed by Olympus and Fuji, these tiny cards can store hundreds of megabytes of information (or images). When I say tiny, I mean, you could probably easily swallow one - although it's better to put them into a camera instead. If you get out your ruler, you'll see that the card is 20mm x 25mm x 1.7mm, with a weight of only 2 grams - you could almost stick one on a letter and post it.
Don't let the physical size put you off though, as capacties are ranged from small 16Mb or 32Mbcards (typically bundled with cameras) up to much larger 512Mb and now 1Gb, released earlier this year. If you think this is big, let me tell you that capacties up to 8Gb will be possible in the not too distant future. This is due to the multi-level cell (MLC) technology, which...

Advantages: Good write / read speeds Disadvantages: Price, Low capacity
...The OlympusXDpicturecard is good in many ways, yet it is in the end just another memory card.
It has high read and write speeds, and supports the panoramic function in Olympus cameras (not that I regularly use that function)!
The capacity of the card could cause problems when used in a camera that takes high resolution photos, although I have never really found this too much of an issue. If I was going on holiday for any great period of time I would buy a memory card of a higher capacity (XDcards are made in up to 1GB). Another downside is that as XDcards are newer than many other card types, they are quite expensive - although their price is dropping quite quickly, and good deals can be found on the internet. Another problem with them being relatively new is that they are not supported by that many card readers, although...

With the relentless increase in digital camera resolution, 'traditional' memory cards find it difficult to keep up with technological progress.
Add to this, the fact is that new formats live or die by the 'take-up' figures of consumers, it's important more
Dictaphones and voice recorders are not something that everybody uses and are usually bought to perform specific tasks, so they have to perform well.
At a glance the Olympus is not something i find particularly aesthetically pleasing, but this is an... more
