Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-f4.5 USM

Advantages: Range. Optical Quality. Size. Weight. Price.
Disadvantages: Lens hood not supplied with lens.

Having owned and used my Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-f/4.5 USM zoom lens for around 15 to 18 months I feel that it is in many ways, quite an exceptional lens. Effectively covering the versatile full-frame equivalent 16-35mm zoom lens, it is a valuable addition to anyone's kit. Being an EF-S lens (the 'S' standing for 'Short' back-focus), it is designed for use ONLY with cameras having APS-C size sensors. Don't attempt to fit one to a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR camera. Such lenses have reduced image circles and produce vignetting on full-frame or 35mm cameras. Furthermore, the rear lens element could get hit by the reflex mirror, causing serious damage. With a maximum aperture of f/3.5 at the widest end and f/4.5 at the more moderate end of the zoom range, the lens is not 'fast' by any stretch of the imagination. However ...

Review of Canon EF wide-angle zoom lens - 10 mm - 22 mm F/3.5-4.5

A beautifully crafted lens

Advantages: Good quality and clear defintion
Disadvantages: Quite bulky and heavy

This lens is a beautiful crafted piece of equipment, it enable for high quality, high definition photographs to be taken. You maybe think that the size is quite extreme however although being quite heavy and large in size, the photographs i have taken with this lens are something quite special! With the added size also comes an added bonus because when taking macro shots of flowers or insects you do not need to get as close with this lense. For instance in order to take a picture of a common bluebottle of around the size of a 5 pence piece you could be around 50-60cm away from the object and still manage to fill the screen with the insect! Overall a definate buy for anyone who is interested in professional photography!! ...

Review of Sigma EX macro lens - 180 mm F/3.5

A superb portrait lens

Advantages: Aperture, lens quality
Disadvantages: None

I love this lens, truly. It is one of the Olympus pro range which means that is is weather sealed and has a focus distance scale. It's a sturdy bit of kit that gives you a reassuring feel. I wouldn't want to drop it, but it feels like it will survive. Now I'm not a big macro person, so I can only say that it seems pretty good at the macro stuff. As you'd expect, there is a long focus travel between normal shooting ranges and macro, but the AF works fine, locking on swiftly and accurately. Where this lens comes into its own is for portraits. On 4/3 cameras this is the equivalent of a 100mm lens. Shooting wide open at f2, the quality of this lens is superlative. It's a bit of a claim, but I don't think it's bettered by any other lens. Bokeh are (is?) to die for, too. It is compact (as you would expect from an actual 50mm lens ...
