I bought an Olympus Mju 600 as a wedding gift for my husband, whose last camera got squished by a car, and i knew i needed to get something good to replace what he'd lost. Bearing in mind i'm not very technical, i thought i'd better do a bit of research, and everywhere i went they advised me that this one was one of the better cameras to go for. Easy-to-use, 6 million pixels and a great price - excellent value for money.
It's a very nice-looking camera, and compact (well, it fits in my handbag, so what else could i want) and the on/off noise is satisfyingly clicky like an old fashioned film camera - giving it a little more soul than most of these digital things. The big screen at the back makes framing and setting up shots really easy, and the weatherproof shell came in very useful for our October honeymoon in the Lake District!
It's got loads of different settings, for portraits, landscapes, night shots etc, but my favourite is the "reducing blur" feature (since i'm not very good at photography), but it even has an "auction" mode which takes three snaps at different points during the flash - ideal if you're fond of putting pictures on any auction sites!
Linking the camera to your PC is a doddle (i managed it without breaking ANYTHING!) and the software that comes with it is a breeze to use too. I really can't recommend this camera enough!
A few little things that really sold this to me (i think it's the details that make it, sometimes) include: the rechargeable battery - our last camera feasted on AAs every time we used it, and at 4 batteries at a time, it cost us a lot to keep it going! the packaging - cardboard box with lots of folding bits to keep everything secure, and only a few plastic bags to keep it tidy. I can't stand polystyrene and hate having things in oodles of wrapping. And it's better for the environment! The 2-pin plug cable for the battery charger, in addition to the UK 3-pin one -it means you can charge your battery without the use of a converter while you're away, which is great if you like to travel.
There is only one drawback with the camera - the size of the buttons. I don't have a problem, but my hubby has fat fingers and finds it a little bit fiddly to operate when changing mode, etc. There is one other small drawback with the package as i bought it - no case. Fortunately the case from our old squashed camera was still useable, and fitted, but if we didn't have that we'd have had to shell out for another one, just to add that little bit of protection that you'd probably want for your new gadget.
On the whole though, this is a brilliant camera, ideal for beginners to digital photography but with enough features to keep a seasoned picture-taker amused for a good long while!

Advantages: Large LCD making it easy to frame the shot and view the pictures you've taken. Disadvantages: A couple of features don't quite (yet) make sense to a beginner like me!
