If you like digital camera's are into taking shots while on the move then the Olympus µ [mju:] 1030 SW is right up your alley. This new addition to the Olympus family is made specifically for the adventurer offering protection from water, and extreme weather conditions in addition to being extra tough it is also able to stand being dropped .
The MRP price for the 1030 SW is £319.99 but if you shop around you should be able to find it a lot cheaper, I purchased mine from ebay for £119.99
The 1030 SW is primarily designed around seekers of adventure, however I've found it to be just as dependable for family use, let your kids loose with it and even if they drop it into the pool or a bowl of hot jelly a quick rinse and its as good as new.
If like me you love to dive the 1030 SW lets you take some great snaps of underwater life and with a reasonaby long battery you'll easily be able to keep snapping away untill your tank runs dry, and if anything unfortuante occurs when your down there, there's no need to worry atleast your camera will be safe!!
Quite franky this product is amazing and whilst it costs a little more than I would usually spend on a camera it does come with the usual extra's and is unlikely to be broken accidently by the kids or even the wife!!
What I find best is despite its tough exteria it continues to give the high quality pictures that you'd expect from any Olympus.
Comes with a choice different colours ,(Platinum Silver, Midnight Black and British Green) and extra's similar to most digital camera's ie carry strap, user guide, video cable, USB cable and a cd-rom containing the master software,
As to the adventure specs there's really no other camera that comes close when you consider the cost and that the 1030 SW is waterproof to a depth of 10m, shockproof against falls to 2m, freezeproof to temperatures as low as -10°C and crushproof to weights of up to 100kg.
So to recap the 1030 SW is an ideal solution if you're the adventurous type but is equally as usable for families especially those with children who like to break stuffand it looks good and takes great pictures.
Bad points are the price although I suspect this camera will probably last a little longer than the models I've had before and as I only purchased mine a couple of months ago that point remains to be seen.
All in all I love it though, a great buy that I'd recommend you get yourself.
