Olympus used the shockproof and waterproof design as the key selling tool for the µ[mju:] 820 and was built to provide the consumer with fantastic picture quality in a durable yet compact form. Through the HyperCrystal LCD screen shots are rendered perfectly clear whilst the face detection and focusing system helps even the most clueless photographer capture what really matters in a photograph. Complexity is added for those more experienced by allowing you to tone down shading and fix awkward glares with the Shadow Adjustment function. ISO sensitivity (long story short this is a piece of technology which allows better image quality in poor lighting without using the flash) helps automatically correct blur caused by movement of the camera or subject matter and is quite obviously an extremely useful bit of support when trying to take pictures or film hyperactive children!
In regards to my personal experience I recently won one of these little beauties in a competition and found myself more than impressed with the camera itself. Would I pay full price for it, no - but let me run what really impressed me about this "ultra compact" beast past you.
It has an 8 megapixel sensor and this showed well in my photographs but even more so in my prints, I was able to transfer pictures onto a variety of media in various sizes without losing any of its precious quality and with the 5x optical zoom and "burst mode" close-ups were hardly an issue either! So to sum up what I landed myself with was a durable camera able to take accidental drops, survive bad weather, take fantastic photographs and print perfectly only two things bothered me, the name (which I can hardly pronounce) and the price tag - now don't get me wrong for the features included this is a well priced piece of kit but I can't ignore that I have managed to get a much more stylish and professional Nikon for a similar price to the more expensive spectrum of the cameras cost!
Apologies for a short review by my normal standards but I feel it doesn't take many words to get across what works and what doesn't with this particular Olympus. The truth is it's a great camera but you can get better, I'd only recommend buying it if you're an extremely athletic person in need of mid-high end camera or an overly clumsy person.
a dream come true with an impressive 5x optical zoom and stylish, weatherproof* body in midnight black, starry silver, ruby red or crystal blue. Exciting colours and mor...
