I first saw this product in the advert with the cute kid, trying his hardest to destroy the camera, even using the camera as a dog toy! I thought this is perfect for me as I do a lot of hiking and canoeing and I have a graveyard of digital cameras that have broken on my trips!
Ok, to the actual product now, being a student with no fixed income, I initially thought the cost was a little on the highside. Then as in the past when you get a gadget that is meant to be "durable" the quality of what is supposed to do is compromised. However with the Olympus, this compromise does not occur, durablity and quality are assured and this justifies the cost. For you people who love your bright colours this camera comes in a wide range of colours, from yellow to blue or pink.
There are a few disadvantages, firstly the integrated memory is tiny, so you need to get an SD card, i'd choose the 2gb card as it means you can shoot more videos without worrying about running out of space. Another issue, that I did not personally have but when my dad tried the camera, he kept putting his finger slightly over the lense, this is because the lense is in the top left and he has bigger hands!
All in all this product is cool, sleek and durable and i'd recommend it to anyone from clumsy to climber!
This Product was brought for me for my 20th birthday present from my partner, one year on and it is still great. It has experienced a few knocks on a few party nights, there is a little dent on the front... however still looks great. My partner and I are jetskiers and so have used it in salt water and in swimming pools and it still works great under water in both!! The cleaning when you get home is important to remember as not doing this can make it stiff, litterally just run it under a tap (due to the salt etc). i would definately recommend this product! Its Fab!!

Advantages: Incredibly Rugged, Still Slim, High Quality Disadvantages: Low Battery Life, Lower MP than many
The Olympus 850 SW as a camera is synonymous with toughness - Waterproof to 3m, shockproof to a 1.5m drop (Higher than most people's hands!) and freezeproof to -10 degrees Centigrade, it's a quality piece of kit. Weight wise it tucks in at 175g, which isn't very light, but is still comfortably pocketable with relatively small dimensions. Included in the package, you'll find:
* LI-42B rechargeable lithium-ion battery
* Battery charger LI-40C
* ... ...most other cameras in the class - But you're paying for reliability in this case, and I think the good reliability specs more than make up for that. Overall, I would rate the Olympus as a solid buy for any outdoorsman - And I think that's where's the camera's aimed. ...

Advantages: lives upto waterproof, shockproof,freezeproof expectations Disadvantages: very slim line needs care not to block lens with fingers
...and weather conditions. The Olympus camera cost around £180.00 and to be honest its completely worth it when i look at the collection of broken ones we have. He's had it now for about 6 months and so far so good. He's swam with it and dropped it many times and it still produces high quality pictures. His fingers can sometimes get in the way of the lens, because of the slim design. Overall an excellent camera thats so durable at such a decent price. ...

Advantages: Great ease of use and sleek design Disadvantages: not quite as waterproof as i would have thought
Although a decent camera I must say it is a bit shoddy. Waterproof? not all that much my three yr old managed to get water in it the first day. Though my fault i geuss. he saw me testing it and he gave it his, but all it took was water running from the facet of my tub to do it. it still works the screen just hs moisture behind it so semi waterproof would be a better description and as for its performance i like it though i do relaize i should have ...

Waterproof to 3m, shockproof to 1.5m and freezeproof to -10°C, the durable µ850 SW takes some beating. Its 8.0 megapixels ensure detailed photo results and the 2.5"/6.4cm HyperCrystal LCD makes framing and reviewing shots a breeze. Equipped with a 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 38 - 114mm) users enjoy considerable flexibility in composing their images. Advanced features such as Face Detection, Shadow Adjustment and BrightCapture technology provide perfectly exposed and focused shots, plus better results in low light. In addition, Digital Image Stabilization protects against blur caused by handshake or fast-moving subjects. Macro shooting is also enhanced thanks to an integrated LED macro illuminator. The µ850 SW comes in a choice of three colors. A huge 38 languages are on board to allow most users across the globe to navigate its intuitive menu in their native tongue.
