A high specification camera at a good price. Lots of functions which are easy to use and easy to select appropriately. Some drawbacks, but none insurmountable. Overall very highly recommended - I would buy it again in a flash knowing the drawbacks and the benefits.

Personal Photographic Background. I would describe myself as a keen photographer, but not improved since I got my first camera for my 11th birthday. In 1991 I bought an Olympus Mju 35mm camera with no zoom, and this produced good photos for me until it's last use in 2004. I am also confident (but bad) at using a digital camcorder for both filming and photographs, but with no flash, the photos are very grainy in all but the best light. With the imminent arrival of a new puppy, we decided to go for broke and invest in a digital camera with a zoom and the Olympus Mju was the camera of choice, partly because of my history with the reliable Olympus Mju (35mm), and partly because of the high specification at a reasonable price.
Overview A high specification camera at a good price. Lots of functions which are easy to use and easy to select appropriately. Some drawbacks, but none insurmountable. Overall very highly recommended - I would buy it again in a flash knowing the drawbacks and the benefits.
General Description. The camera is "weatherproof" so you can take photos in all conditions, but do not wash it with water, drop it in water or use it for underwater photography! (That's what the book says!) The camera weighs 181g and measures 10.2cm x 5.6cm x 3.3cm. It has no viewfinder as such, you use the LCD screen for this purpose which measures 2.5cm.
Camera Modes. The modes are selected using a dial on the back of the camera. The dial has clear pictures to enable selection of the correct mode. These are: Camera - to take a still photo. You can add sound to these. Image blur reduction - takes a still photo with as little blur as possible. Scene - a set of 17 predefined settings plus 2 DIY settings for taking specific photo types - landscapes, indoor, portraits, fireworks, snow&sand, night shots, sunset etc. S - Manually change the shutter speed (if you are very keen). A - Manually change the aperture value (if you are even keener)! Video camera - to enable movies to be made with sound. These are recorded in 'Motion JPEG' format. Album display - photos and films taken can be stored in albums on the camera - so you can seperate your rude holiday photos before showing your mum! This setting lets you choose an album and then flick through the photos in that album alone. You mum won't know how to get to another album, so your rudies are safe! You can also set the album up as a slideshow. Photo display - allows you to review the photos you have taken and delete or add to albums as you choose. Using this mode does not open the lens cover. You can also do this using another button in all the other modes, but with the lens cover open. You can also set the photos up as a slideshow.
Functions - Zoom - optical of 3x and a digital of 5x which can be switched on and off as you please. You can also zoom in on a portion of a photo you have already taken. - On-camera guide - the camera has it's own built in guide. This is useful to set the best photo quality and for shooting certain subjects, assuming the answer is not a preset scene type. - Macro and supermacro mode. These modes enable photos to be taken very close up (eg flowers). They are easily selected at the back of the camera. - Flash - The flash has a number of settings - automatic, red-eye reduction, red-eye fill in, fill-in flash and can be switched off. This is easily selected at the back of the camera. - Self timer - the camera has a self timer function which gives you approximately 10 seconds to get yourself in the frame. You can also buy a remote contol which allows you to operate the camera from a distance. Sequential shooting - For action shots, or a series of photos, the camera will take a set of photos quicker then it could do individually.
Computer compatability. The camera is pictbridge compatible. We have a Mac running OSX v10.4.5 and it all works great. The camera is also compatible with OS 9.0 or higher, OS X 10.1 or higher. Windows - 98SE, Me, 2000 professional, XP. The camera comes with Olympus' own photo editing software which I haven't used. I use I-Photo to load up the photos and have experienced no problems, other than the file sizes are quite large for attaching to emails etc.
Drawbacks - high megapixels can mean loading to computer and attaching to emails takes a long time for photos taken with the highest quality, however, it is easy to reduce the quality and there are guidelines as to what quality level is suitable for email, printing etc. on the camera itself. - The advanced guide which you do need to use is only available on CD rom (supplied). At 166 pages it is rather large to print out, but it is often easier to read these things on paper than a screen. - The camera doesn't come with a case, so you either have to buy one, or make do. - The large screen is easily scratched. - There is no viewfinder, you can only use the LCD screen to take photos. In bright sunlight, this can be very tricky as some of our holiday snaps prove! You can change the brightness of the LCD display, but the instructions for this are on the CD manual, which, funnily enough, we didn't have on holiday with us! - The on/off button in particular is quite small so men with big hands may find it a bit fiddly to use. My husband and I don't have any problems with the use of the camera. - The battery charger is very neat, but the battery has to be removed to charge it up. You can buy a mains adapter to run the camera from the mains.
Also, I bought this camera from Amazon, new, although I use kelkoo for all big purchases, it was cheaper through amazon with free P&P, and delivered really quickly.
Advantages: Photo size and quality, Start up speed, Looks good!! Disadvantages: Comparatively expensive memory cards, Night mode, Zoom
I bought this as my first digital camera, and on a whole have been very happy with its performance. The night mode often takes a long time to photograph a subject and this can be annoying if taking an action shot, although for a still composition, it photographs very well. The zoom is only 3x, but as the resolution of these photos are so high, this is not a major issue. The only other problem with this camera is that the memory cards are still relatively ... ...are therefore more expensive, however this is not a huge problem as the prices are dropping. The camera is nice and compact (fits nicely into my pocket - which can be very usefull when on holiday if you do not want to be bogged down when going for a quick walk around), and the screen is large and sharp. The whole camera has a general feel of high-quality manufacture which is really nice. The camera on a whole works very quickly, and the battery lasts ...

Advantages: Ease of use, compact, clear picture quality and price Disadvantages: er, none !
I bought this camera to replace my 3 year old Fuji Finepix s3000, a good camera, but since our first child came along, we discovered that little Dora is quicker than the camera, so I decided to buy a new one.
The mmjju range is excellent, with cameras for everyone (my wife has a mju mini, great for shots out and about), the 800 is the top of the range, with more functions than you can shake a stick at, enabling you to adjust the shutter speed, white ... ...(I remember saying that about my 3.2m pixel fuji when I bought it).
It's so easy to use, if you want to point and shoot, if you want to adjust the settings, then this is a pleasure too, meaning it's a camera for everyone, especially with a weather proof case.
Perfect, I love mju ...

Advantages: The Olympus µ [mju] Digital 800 has a CCD of 8 mega pixel that makes it a great buy. Disadvantages: Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera is comparatively expensive than the other cameras.
Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera is a very cool camera. The camera is very well designed and surely does not fall short to seize attention. Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera is also very simple to carry along to places when traveling. The distinctive stylish and petit design enables the Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera to slide into the pocket with great ease. Moreover, it has an 8 mega pixel CCD. Therefore, there ... ...the images. The Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera is priced approximately £350, considerably high when looking out for a eight mega pixel. However, it has a finer class and is also equipped with some truly astonishing functions like a super macro mode and an enormous 2.5in LCD monitor.
The Olympus µ (Mju) Digital 800 - Digital Camera's chic design next to its fine quality definitely makes it a must buy. ...

Advantages: robust and weatherproof make it ideal for travelling Disadvantages: stupid name!
In my opinion, it's one of the best models in its range, able to accommodate a broader range of shooting conditions than its predecessors, and with a very solid feel in the hand. With relatively compact dimensions, stylish design, and nice array of features, the 800 Digital could be a good match for novices and others interested in a compact, rugged, and highly portable camera. Its all-weather body design means it can go just about anywhere, and ...
