I am currently travelling around the world for a year and my boyfriend has managed to break two digital cameras so far so we opted for the olympus tough 6000 as it is waterproof as well as shock proof so should not get broken if my boyfriend drops it.
GENERAL INFORMATION This camera is a 10 megapixel camera and is shock proof at about 1.5m/5ft and is waterproof at 3m/10ft. It has a. lcd screen so that you can view your photos and view what you are taking a photo of. it has a 3.6 optical wide zoom.The camera comes in a variety of colours and it looks very stylish. It comes with a user manual on how to use the camera and gives you details about all the features and settings. It also comes with a charger for the lithium ion battery, cables to connect it to a tv, cables to connect it to your computer, wrist strap and a cd with software for your computer.
MENU The camera has a small dial which you can turn for quick settings. In this menu you have an auto setting which will automatically recognise the best setting for the photo you are taking. It also has a shooting mode which is for taking photos without selecting a scene. Then there is the scene setting which allows you to chose one of the settings mentioned in the next section of this review. There is a beauty menu which when you take a photo it will then adjust the photo so that the object you took the picture of looks better. This is perfect for if you are not looking your best in a photo as it will instantly make you look better. The is a video setting which allows you to record videos. Also a playback menu which allows you to view the photos and videos you have taken.
SCENE SELECTIONS The scenes you can choose from are Portrait- for capturing portraits landscape- for shooting landscapes night scene- captures illuminated night scenes night + portrait- for in evening and at night sport- captures fast moving action without blurring indoor- for pictures indoors candle- for candlelight to reproduce warm colours self portrait- lets you take a picture of yourself whilst holding camera sunset- for sunset and sunrise fireworks- for fireworks at night cuisine- for still life documents- for text documents beach and snow- for pictures of snow and sand etc smile shot- takes the photo atomatically when the subject smiles underwater snapshot- for pictures in a pool or beach underwater wide 1- ideal for pictures of coral etc underwater wide 2-ideal for pictures of fish swimming underwater macro- for close up of items underwater pre capture movie-takes 2 second of movie before the shutter is released snow- For capturing subjects in snowy white surroundings. You just tap the camera to operate it
OTHER FEATURES The camera also has a menu where you can adjust the cameras settings such as whether the digital zoom is on and the type of flash it uses. You can also set a timer so that you can take a photo with you in it. There is also a button so that you can adjust the contrast in light before you take the photo so that you can get the perfect photo. There is also a setting so that you can tap the camera and it will work this is so that you can save the battery life when you have a period of time between each photo.
OVERALL OPINION I really like this camera and i love how it is waterproof as this means when i go snorkelling on my holidays i can get great photos. It has a very clear screen to view your photo on and has many different scene selections to ensure that you get the perfect photo. Also it is very tough so should last me longer than all my other cameras that have broken due to them being dropped. I have not found any problems or dislikes with this camera so far. This camera cost me about $300 usd which is a reasonable price for a waterproof camera. Although the price will vary depending on where you buy it but compared to some of the other makes of waterproof camera it is a lot cheaper. I would definately recommend this camera and it is great fun trying it out underwater.
