It was a good mall. I have many fond memories of it. Unfortunately, all of the good stores seemed to close first, leaving the food court as the only reason to go there. The motel is still in operation, but under different ownership. It's used now mainly as a bus terminal. For years before the mall closed, it was getting progressively worse. All but one of the department stores had moved out for bigger and better malls. The book store had closed. I think people just wanted Bayside more. The same thing happened to The Mall at 163rd Street, although 163rd may still have a chance. (I'll get to that in another review.)
It was a good mall. I have many fond memories of it. Unfortunately, all of the good stores seemed to close first, leaving the food court as the only reason to go there. I'm not really sure what happened to it. I think it just outlived its usefulness. Miami is so spread out that a well-placed mall can do well because competition won't draw too much traffic from it. Omni, being situated so close to Downtown Miami's main shopping area, couldn't keep up. The stores either moved to Bayside or to another mall or simply closed up shop.
It's kind of sad. I went there a lot when it was open. It had a bookstore, a music shop, a video arcade, a movie theater, and a food court. Those things draw me to a mall if it's within bus range. At least here, I can tell everyone about it. I'd hat to bore everyone with all the details, though.
