ITV Digital, the new name for On-Digital is advertised by a right cheeky monkey. I work at Boxclever TV shop and the posters of the monkey are attracting people of all ages. So much so that we have signed loads of new and old people up to this newly launched product. When I say newly launched , I mean re-launched under a new name.
Old On-Digital customers who came off the scheme have now come back to the company as it will feature a brand new sports channel.
This channel is called ITV Sports channel.
Before you even think of getting a box, the assistant must check your postcode to make sure your transmiter can pick up these programmes, as some areas can't receive it. This is because your TV aerial is plugged into the digi box and therefore the signal is received from various transmitters.
There are still some areas which can't receive it, mine included. Therefore Sky Digital would be a better option for you, until the areas are updated.
There are the prepaid boxes which cost £119 and come with preloaded channels. Please note that, the box is never yours, it's only a free rental and you have just paid for the years viewing. You also only get the free to air channels and a choice of primary channels. Any other channels i.e the new Sports Channel which gets launched on the 11th of August is an extra £6.99 a month, done on a direct debit or credit card basis. For some reason , they won't allow customers to have an invoive sent to them, unlike Sky.
Boxclever at the moment only do monthly boxes, where the starting price is £6.99 a month, plus one primary channel. If you don't want to subscribe to any channels, you have to pay £199.00 for a digi box and then you will get the free to view programmes. You would only gain, BBC Choice, BBC Parliament, BBC Knowledge, ITV 2, Channel 5, TV Travel Shop and the Shopping Channel.
For £9.99 you get the free to view channels plus all the primary channels for the first three months. After the three months are up, you can either keep all the channels and pay £13.00 a month, or pick just six of the Primaries for the £9.99 price. You actually gain more than six though, as some of the choices are linked boxes where you get two for the price of one.(BOGOF)
If you want to add a Premium channel onto the package, the first channel would cost £12, if you got two then it would be £17 , this is on top of the £9.99.
The premium channels are Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3 comes free. Also there is Sky Moviemax and Sky premier.
The new ITV sports channel is an additional service at £6.99 this includes Nationwide league matches, 15 division 2/3 matches, 40 UEFA Cup matches and 15 Worthington cup matches. There is also ITV Sports Select which is football on demand. here you will be able to order matches from the Premiership for £6.00 a match and £4.00 a match for football league matches, i.e division 1 etc. There will be 40 Premiership matches and 20 Football League matches.
There will also be interview with Terry Venables and Graham Taylor as well as others.
If you choose to have ITV Sports channel , you can upgrade for an extra £3.00 a month to ITV Select, this will give you unlimited "Pay per view matches". This is better value, it's better than paying individually if you are an ardent fan.
Please note that you have to make your mind up before you activate your card, you can't add on ITV Select after choosing ITV Sports.
The boxes are easy to tune in, you are given the box to tune in yourself. It comes with a remote, batteries and instruction book. There is also a telephone lead which is to be used if you want to connect to the internet. Again this is a seperate service costing £5.00 a month to subscribe. The only cost then is the telephone calls evertime you go online.
Once you have connected the digibox by following the enclosed instructions, you then ring the also enclosed number for the person to activate your card. Once your card has been activated, ITV Digital will put in for the direct debit payment, this can take between, 3-14 days.
If for any reason , you are not happy with the reception and need an aerial upgrade, the cost is a subsidised £40 payable to the engineer.
Anyone wanting to know more , please email me, I will try and answer your questions, nothing too technical I hope.
Please remember I don't work for this company, Iam only an agent for where I work.
Well done on a very well written review, it is rather a dry subject but you managed to add humour to it. I am a satellite fan and write for TESUG (The European Satellite Users Group) so you can probably guess that I'm not an ITV Digital fan. I do notice some news reports about a £99 version of their box being shipped soon. This looks to be subsidised by channel 4&5 and the BBC, and is geered towards free to air. As I live on the South Coast digital terrestrial signals tend to be swamped by the French signals, so I echo your comment re unsuitability for some areas. Thanks, David.
