Advantages Detailed, honest and moving. No ghost scribe here!
Disadvantages Not huge amounts about his work at Top Gear
I truly realise why I love books so much when I come across one that leaves you boring your friends with lines of 'In that Richard Hammond book I read...' and "That reminds me of a book I just read..." This book is a frank and honest look at how a serious brain injury can effect you and your loved ones. Hammond, with his genuinely appealling and humorous manner, takes you through the stages up to his crash and his recovery. His wife writes her account of the crash in an equally honest and poignant way. You don't need to like Top Gear or Hammond to appreciate this book. It not only allows you to see how remarkable and fragile the human brain is but the many factors that effected his recovery - such as the media, the public and his close relationships. A story that stays in your mind long after you've finished the final page.
