As an aside, Onetel is owned by Centrica who have exported all their call centres to India. There is a noticeable problem understanding and being understood when your problem does not match their scripts.
To summarise, there is no difference in the line rental when it works, other than 60p a month, but it takes ages to sort out any problems and compensation is much less than BT. ... more

However... The major disadvantage is that the customer services are not very helpful at all. Our line went dead on Wednesday. Absolutely no dial tone or anything. So we couldn't make or receive calls. I tried to report the fault online but their fault reporting service didn't allow me to report the fault, the options just didn't include "no dial tone". So I rang customer services to report the fault. They were very kind and said they would log it for me, and an engineer would be in touch within 48 hours. This is comparable to BT's service. However no-one rang me, so I rang again. They promised me a call by the end of the day. This didn't happen. I rang again and was promised a call over the weekend. This didn't happen either. Then I rang again and was told that an engineer would be told to "verify the fault" (and no, they couldn't explain what that meant either) and finally on Tuesday an engineer rang, to tell me that BT would sort it out by 6pm on Thursday. This happened, and we now have a working line. Hooray. So then I raised the tricky question of compensation. BT offer 2 months line rental if you are without a phone for 4-6 days. I was offered £2. I am trying to contest this but with little luck. Emails to customer service get no reply so I am going to change my line rental back to BT. It seems that they have a greater motivation to repair lines when £20 is at stake, rather than onetel and their paltry £2. Advantages: Very cheap service, great customer care. Disadvantages: The only disadvantage I have found is that the call centre is abroad
I switched to onetel not truly believing the savings I would have compared to BT. The savings were soon made apparent. I am paying almost HALF the amount and I get a better service. With BT I had their option 3 landline and 24/7 dial-up internet, which should have cost approx £45 per month, however they kept raising this amount until it was a ridiculas £80 per month. Any problems with the line or my bill meant being prepared for a long wait in a ... ...be done online in your onetel account. You can also add or remove the services you want, without the need of phone calls. You can also get a good deal on options such as call waiting and caller display, mix and match the services you want, purchase 4 and you get them for £4 per month. Their website is very easy to navigate and your options are very clear.
The only time I have needed to phone was to order broadband. The customer care was excellent ...

Advantages: Onetel offer everything its a one stop shop for all your telephony needs and its guarenteed to be cheaper than BT I hate monopolies so that has to be a plus Disadvantages: India call centre - But I have to be honest they have been more than helpful especially with setting up my Broadband
I was with BT, but I was getting over charged for my international calls. I dont want to have to buy a card or remember an access number each time I want to phone my friends aboard. It made me look for a real solution and Onetels service was so good and easy to switch I decided to also take out a mobile and broadband plan. By doing it all with them I get it at an even better deal. Their call centre was more than friendly and even spent extra time ... ...phone and email. My bills come on time and they even have a self service section online were I can review my charges, and make necessary changes. The thing I liked most is after I signed up they gave me a call to see if I was ok and to ensure I understood all of their communications and my first bill. I just think they went the extra mile, and I appreciate that in a company. ...

very expensive calls when waiting for account to be activated- they promise cheaper internet connx, but i found that i had to await a qualifying period. my post 1800hrs calls were free however found that my 0845* calls were being charged at a different rate - higher than BT.
requested a broadband package however found the service to be poor, 70% unavaialable and more expensive for 2md - 5mB. differing telephone packages were discussed however the ... ...checks with neighbours identified that the avaialability of lines (BT; Telewest; Toucan etc)
however when i informed them that i would be leaving, was severly penalised for insufficient notification ?.
as such had to pay £15 to cease my account.
as such yes they promise cheaper calls but please read the small print as they seem to have hurdles that can trip you up. ...
