IF you are short on space and money but want a proper sounding system then i strongly recomend you trial one of these little gems.
I am a new student living in halls so i needed something a bit smaller than my old sony reciever i was using at home. Although i've moved my system into a different room i could instanty tell the difference between my clapped out sony reciever, this unit sounds greeeeeeeat!

Best features:
- it does everthing (DAB....the works)

- build quality and looks, you can feel the quality!
- compact physically
- Price (i would of happily payed a lot more for something this good!)
- Buy it in black!
Bad bits:
- the remote is silver (why not black Onkyo? unless your men packed it wrongly. i also feel that the remote doesnt tie in with the rest of the system as i feels a bit cheapish (not that i care about this anyway, i'm just telling you.)
- would have prefered gold plated conections but all they have tried to do is keep the cost down to keep us cheap skates happy, and would'nt make much difference anyway apart from maybe getting a bit corroded in time. Having said that this unit uses proper high grade components, so they have put the money in where its needed most.
On a personal note, i really do love this system and if you are thinking of buying a Denon (its only a name) DONT DO IT FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!!!!! buy an Onkyo
also don't be shy about buying proper speakers for this, i am talking £250's worth of speaker...this system deserves them.
Advantages: Small, good sound, packed with feaures Disadvantages: Don't expect miracles - audiophiles will still want to go with separates
This review refers to the CR-515DAB. There are quite a few variations in models, so watch out!
This is a feature-packed micro hi-fi that offers the same sound quality as budget separates. I'm no audiophile so that's about as much as I can say, except that the sound is far clearer and more distinct than any hi-fi I've ever heard (I weep when I hear my car stereo nowadays...). You'll need good speakers, though.
The CR-515 is packed with features, ... ...playback in particular. I couldn't test DAB because my area doesn't get a signal. One tip: There's a button on the front marked "Direct". It took me a few weeks to spot this (it's a paragraph in the manual). Switching it on bypasses the tone control circuitry and makes a subtle but welcome improvement in the sound, especially with classical music. ...

Advantages: Excellent value for money Disadvantages: Could be seen as bass-light for mega-bass lovers
I have the Birch version of these speakers, and am delighted with them, I have the speakers hooked up to an OnkyoCR515 system, and replaced the original Onkyo speakers with these.
I bought them without listening first (a risk), but they were only £100 + £15 p&p from Hiway.com, I thought I might need a subwoofer, as the boxes only have two 8cm woofers and a tweeter each. I need not have worried, the bass is perfectly adequate, and surprising for such modest dimensions.
They are very slim, only 10cm wide, and look fantastic.
For this sort of money (rrp is £249) you could do a lot worse, but as a surround sound set up, you may want/need a sub, but for normal hifi, I do not think it necessary, very crisp, clear sound, highly recommended. ...
Advantages: Clear and distinct; very bright sound; great for classical music Disadvantages: Maybe too good for pop and rock music?
are plugged into an OnkyoCR-515 and rested on a large sturdy sideboard in my front room, so maybe not the perfect situation, but perhaps typical.
I also like the understated looks of the speakers. With their square front and black covers emphasising the vertical, they look like something your dad would have in the 1970s. ...
