Specsavers know I can live without money but not without glasses!

Advantages: Clear prices
Disadvantages: Online booking needs improvement

...What I like most about Specsavers is that they have such a large range of designs to choose from. They also have a clear price policy with basic prices starting at £25 ranging through to £45, £75, and £85. They also have a wide variety of designer frames starting at £125 through to £169. Each category of glasses is clearly visible and each pair has a corresponding colour coded sticker on one of the lenses so you can identify the price, in the event ...
...Although Specsavers do cater for a wide range of budgets, compared to my previous visits I have to say that they seem to have decreased the amount of space given to the value glasses. Instead the majority of the store is overwhelmed by designer specs. On the one hand this is a positive thing as it means a lot more choice. However I feel it puts pressure on you to buy the more expensive pairs as opposed to the cheaper ones. Despite this, Specsavers ...

A Painless Experience

Advantages: Great service, good range of glasses
Disadvantages: None really. The appointment was a little late I suppose

...have just come back from Optical Express with a brand new pair of specs. Not only is this a new pair, but my first ever pair! At the age of 29 I thought it time I got an eye test. Optical Express were offering a free test if you buy your glasses there and then. As I intended to do this I thought I'd go along. If you don't purchase the test costs £15.00. Now, the last time I had an eye test was at primary school where you have to read the letters ...
...me - both on an optical and fashion conscious level. I was incredibly fussy both with style and some of the ludicrously inflated prices that I criticised constantly. They were nothing less than patient and courteous to me. I finally found my frame (the cheapest there at £60 and that was with a 50% discount) after a long consultation with everyone in the shop as to a) whether they suited me and b) whether they were sure this particular pair were not ...

Good, but still something missing....

Advantages: Easy parking, professional staff, good after-care.
Disadvantages: It's Tesco!

...Well, on casually shopping at Tesco one day, I floated over to their opticians and found out they were offering a free eye test with 100 clubcard points to boot. I figured I had nothing to lose and putting my original fears aside, booked both my boyfriend and myself in for an appointment that same week. I do not usually think Tesco provides great customer service. I recently had a debacle with them trying to return a £2 pack of screwdrivers, grr..! ...
...rather informal. When using a Tesco optician, you are aware of the constraints and I did not expect much more than what I got in terms of layout. However, the there is nothing unprofessional or informal about the staff and this is what I found so reassuring. They acted appropriately and with care for thier job, as the professionals it soon became clear they were. I don't know if I was half expecting a shop assistant to be conducting the eye test ...

Asda Opticians - helped me see clearly

Advantages: Online store and instore to choose from
Disadvantages: Instore was very busy because not many Asda's have instore opticians

...recently switched over to use Asda as my main opticians because I had started to order my contact lenses from the website because in my opinion they are much cheaper than buying them from most the other opticians I have used. I previously shopped instore with Specsavers, I have not had any bad experiences with them apart from the fact my monthly contact lens fee started at £13 and gradually increased to £19 within the space of 1 year, however I had ...
...bit too much. Asda online: I found the Asda opticians website very user friendly and easy to navigate around the different areas. I loved the way the special offers were easy to find on the home page. Like many other websites you were given a helping hand to find what you wanted with the 'shop by brand' or 'shop by category' sections. I was only interested in buying some contact lenses so I didn't really look at the other areas but there are sections ...

Great company

Advantages: Aftercare
Disadvantages: Price

I have gone to Boots Opticians for years and although they do charge over the odds for glasses and contacts at least they are decent people who actually try to check out your eyes. A few times before my glasses have broken with me at fault but they would fix them free of charge assuming if its just a screw missing or a semi bent frame. Obviously if you do break a lense or the whole frame then you do have to pay again. When it comes to appointments ...
...and even in smaller stores (Wimbledon) they still manage to have more than one testing area which means that more people can be checked over per hour. The after care is also superb, for example getting a contact lens check-up is £35 but it comes with three different appointments to check on your eyes adjustment, a teaching lesson and a weeks worth of free contact lenses. Word of warning though, if you do decide to get an appointment in the weekend ...
