Whilst doing the Slimming World Diet last year I was introduced to the delights of Options hot drinks. I have such an incredibly sweet tooth that whenever I embark on a diet I always lose my willpower to satisfy my craving for something sweet. So when I heard about these, especially the white chocolate variety I thought I should try them.

I chose to buy the individual packs of single drinks, which cost me 25p each from Sainsbury's as this way I could test a few flavours but in the end I decided I would continue to buy them in this way as it was convenient and easy to make up as a drink and as I never had more than one a day it was still fairly cost effective to buy single sachets. This also meant I could have different flavours on hand all the time to satisfy any craving I had.

The white chocolate variety is my absolute favourite and it is made simply by adding boiling water to your mug of powder and stirring well. The sachet does say to let the water cool slightly before pouring but I never do and have not noticed any adverse taste reaction when I drink it.

Once made it looks a lot like warmed up milk or a very weak horlicks drink, but the smell it what hits you first. It really is like a mug of melting Milky Bar and if you like white chocolate you cannot fail to feel tempted by the smell. It is all part of the experience for me. If I am denying myself any real chocolate treats then I am going to make the most of what I can have and so the smell is ingested up my nostrils eagerly while I stir. It doesn't take long and I have a nice little bit of froth floating on top of the mug, all ready to cool slightly and be enjoyed.

The taste is gorgeous. A simple word for a simple taste. It doesn't pretend to be anything than what it is. I wouldn't say it has a creamy taste or texture about it, as it is actually quite a watery drink but the flavour is very intense and certainly tastes of white chocolate. I think the texture might put some people off but I really enjoy the fact that it quenches my thirst, like a cup of tea, but that it also feels like a luxury drink due to the sweetness of the flavouring.

As this was recommended by Slimming World you can imagine it will be low in fat. You would be right and if you are familiar with Slimming World I believe these to be 2 syns per drink if you are interested. For the rest of us, these have only 43 calories per mug so are certainly able to be enjoyed as part of a healthy lifestyle.

As an added interest - if you are on slimming world, these are delicious mixed up with Quark and eaten like a mousse - amazing and still only 2 syns if you use the whole packet!!
