I am the kind of person who loves sweet things and often in the evenings I tend to snack a lot. I am also the kind of person who tends to put on weight and doesn't have a super metabolism which means that I can get away with snacking and so I'm always on the look out for low calorie options and this is exactly what this is; a low calorie Option!
I didn't realise it but hot chocolate is actually quite high in calories, a normal instant hot chocolate contains about 140 calories which I think is a lot for a drink and it's saturated fat content also really high (around 16 grams!) I have therefore taken to drinking low calorie versions of the drink such as HIghlights and Options and I've always found that Options seems to be the best.Options is a low calorie belgian hot chocolate drink which you make instantly. It was originally the belgian chocolate flavour but now they have introduced several other flavours all with rather exotic names such as mint madness and outrageous orange!
Options comes in two versions- a large plastic tub or single sachets. The plastic tubs have screw caps which are easy to take on and off even if you have wet hands. This lid helps to keep the chocolate inside dry and fresh. The tub is a very tall and slim design, shaped a little like an hour-glass which is meant to reflect how this drink will help you to keep your shape. I think it's a very elegant looking tub and because it's tall and slim it doesn't take upmuch room in the cupboard. The sachets are designed for just one mug's worth. They are plastic and you can open them by tearing the serrated area-a litle like on a sachet of ketchup. You shouldn't need scissors to open them!To make the drink you add the amount of powder and then pour boiling water over it and stir until it has all disolved. Sometimes I find that not all of the powder disolves and little bits are left floating on the top- my tip for not letting this be the case is to add milk to the powder first and stir it in to make a paste and then add the hot water. This does the trick!
Taste wise this drink is lovely. It is orange flavour and it does taste very rich. It is almost like a melted chocolate orange as it is full of flavour and not at all watery, if you add more milk too it is even more so. I like how this drink actually still is rich despite being low in calories, you definietly don't think you are drinking a low calorie option that is for sure. The orange flavour too isn't sharp or over powering instead it's quite subtle but flavoursome enough for you to enjoy it.In my opinion this is a great hot chocolate drink. It is just 39 calories per serving and so definitely a much healtheir alternative compared to others. It does help me to curb some chocolate cravings too. It is now beginning to get cold again so it's nice to hav ea warm hot chcolate to warm me up on these cold mornings and it's also quite filling too!
You can buy Options from most supermarkets and food shops.
