"A Fun Evening"

I'm not generally a gambler and am not really at home in casinos, however we wandered past this one in Qawra and, after seeing a few adverts and leaflets for it, decided to give it a go.

The Oracle Casino is part of the Dolmans five star hotel in Qawra and this is reflected in the style and design of the building, both inside and outside.

Due to the gambling laws in Malta, you have to be a member of the casino for 24 hours before you are actually allowed to enter and part with your money. So, you'll need to decide the day before that you want to go and go and sign up then. All you need is some form of photographic identification that proves your age - the best bet is your passport, however I think they also accept driving licences.

Signing up to become a member is a quick and painless experience - they take a few details from your ID, take a picture of you and give you a card that will be activated 24 hours later. The staff are extremely efficient, friendly and helpful.

Once you have waited 24 hours, you can enter the casino freely. If there is a queue, you can skip to the front and just swipe your card and then you're off!

There are a huge number of hi-tech slot machines, allowing you to bet anything from a few cents upwards, as well as black jack tables, poker rooms and roulette wheels. We just had a wander round and settled on a roulette table that had just a few people playing (less people to make a fool of ourselves infront of). The staff here again were very welcoming and friendly at the same time as being professional.

There are kiosks to cash in your chips, which again is a very quick procedure. This is also the place you can buy chips from.

Also in the casino is a restaurant, which we didn't eat in, but looked very popular and reasonably priced. There is also a bar, smoking area and rest area.

The aim of the game here is clearly to provide a high level of comfort and a relaxed environment for it's patrons and they have exceeded expectations in this area. From the little details of welcome air-conditioning and well stock bathrooms, to a stylish and understated interior.

Overall, I would recommend the casino as a great place to spend a little time, have a little fun and who knows . . . maybe even win a little money? -Useful Information-
  • Opening hours - daily from 10am
  • Dress Code - No swimwear during the day and no shorts or t-shirts after 8pm
  • Age restrictions - over 25yrs for Maltese citizens, over 18 yrs for all others
  • They offer free transport from local hotels

Interesting difference in age brackets there, I thought. The free buses sound like a good reason to register, but then I'll bet there isn't a free bus from Ghajn Tuffieha or Marsaxlokk, and most places in St Paul's Bay or Bugibba are, as you indicate, a stroll away in any case. Not that I'd visit Malta to go to the casino, there are many more things to see and do on the islands than just sample the Casino scene. Nice review.

Not a fan at all - I spent a week in Las Vegas and didn't gamble at all.
