Oraldene icemint mouthwash contains 200ml of a blue liquid (looks more like a chemical from science), this is quite enough and should last you a while. You can buy a 500ml bottle but this would not be worth buying unless you have mouth ulcers practically everyday. It has a number of uses; it can be used for Gingivitis, ... ...mint.
Oraldene contains Hexetidine 0.1g/100ml. This is an antibacterial substance that is on most mouthwash solutions. It kills bacteria and fungi, things that can be found in the mouth hence its presence in Oraldene.
It also Polysorbate, saccharin sodium, this has been known to cause cancer in laboratory animals. It can also cause eye, skin or respiratory irritation. I decided to use it, as the amount is very small. Citric ... more
I have suffered from mouth ulcers for as long as I can remember. They can be very painful and make it difficult to eat and swallow. The last bout of ulcers that I had was about 6 months ago. I had been out drinking the night before and as we all know we get dehydrated, anyway I woke up and my mouth was dry as a bone. I mean my tongue was stuck to the side of my mouth. When I managed to free my tongue I had a drink of water and dampened my mouth somewhat. After about 6 hours I could feel the inside of my mouth begin to throb, it eventually got worse and the roof of my mouth was covered in ulcers. I'm guessing that this was due to the fact that our mouths carry a huge amount of bacteria and it is the saliva that sort of disinfects our mouth and washes it away.
According to www.medic8.com there are two types of ulcers: Ones caused by minor injuries from inside the mouth from a chipped tooth, braces or dentures. The second type are the most common ones caused 'by the body's own immune system attacking the mucosal lining of the mouth'. They can also be caused by stress, certain foods (boiled sweets always do it for me) and deficiencies in vitamin B12, folic acid or iron. Although a direct cause is unknown.
Where were we? Ah yes, by about 8 hours my mouth was very sore, could not eat or drink a warm drink. I was willing to try anything so bought some Oraldene Icemint from Asda. (Was recommended by the chemist but I'm not paying their prices).

You can buy a 500ml bottle but this would not be worth buying unless you have mouth ulcers practically everyday. It has a number of uses; it can be used for Gingivitis, (bleeding and sore gums) ulcers of the mouth and sore throats. It can also be used for halitosis or bad breath. I took the liberty of smelling it for you. To be honest, I think that it smells quite nice, similar to a cough medicine with a hint of mint.
Citric acid, quinoline sodium (synthetic dye and salt), patent blue v (more colouring), mint flavouring, ethanol 96% (alcohol), water and sodium (salt) content. Oraldene mouthwash can only be used for topical use. Meaning that it cannot be swallowed or taken for internal use.
The information leaflet to this product is very easy to read and comprehendible, they do not use fancy words and speak in plain English. It has headings of 'What is ice mint used for?', 'Before taking Oraldene icemint', How to use it, what to do if it is swallowed, possible side effects, and storing information. It also has diagrams that show what it is used for (list given before) and even gives you tips on oral hygiene. Overall the instructions are very helpful and useful. Practically anybody can use Oraldene even pregnant women although the packaging does recommend that if you have any concerns to contact your doctor or pharmacist. This product it is not recommended for those under six years old.
The bottle comes with a measuring cup with a 15ml measure on it, which is the recommended amount to gargle with two or three times a day. You should not exceed this amount due to the chemicals that are in the solution.
When I took it, it did not taste too bad for a medicated mouthwash, it was not particularly like drinking a nice cold beer on a hot summers day, but it was bearable. It must have been bearable due to the underlying mint flavour that was apparent. The most disgusting thing about this product has to be the aftertaste. I mean it is dreadful. I could not taste food or drink properly for about two days after using this stuff. All that I could taste was a chemically based flavour, it was vile! But did it work? Although the aftertaste was unbearable the pain of my ulcers did seem to ease a little, after all it's not a miracle cure. Usually without taking anything my ulcers completely heal after about five days. When using Oraldene they had completely gone after about three and a half days; which for me is worth it.
I would definitely use Oraldene again, the aftertaste is worth the relief of pain, The only off putting thing is the price compared to other mouth washes although I have found that this one works the best so do not really begrudge paying that little bit extra.
Oraldene can be found at: - -Asda £2.98. -Tesco £2.99 -Morrisons £3.39 -Sainsbury's £3.49 -Boots £3.49
Advantages: instant numbing Disadvantages: taste the tooth doctor
Oraldene mouthwash
I don't usually suffer from mouth ulcers but for the past few days have not only suffered from a very large one that really hurts, but now have a sore throat to keep it company.
After using Bonjela for a few days, constantly brushing my mouth and using my usually mouth wash the redness and pain was still the same. Every movement in my mouth hurt from swallowing and eating to talking, which in my job is not good. The family were ... ...recommended that I start using Oraldene straight away, so I brought a 100ml bottle for £2.19. The Packaging
A colourful box with soothing pale blues creeping over hot pink curving lines. Hopefully a good sign of what the contents is capable of. There are lots of instructions and advice on the outside of the box, including information on this antibacterial mouthwash being able to relieve gingivitis and sore gums as well as the mouth ulcers and sore ...

Advantages: It works on sore gums Disadvantages: Bit of a nasty after taste
...I have also seen Oraldene in the original "flavour" which is red, but haven't actually tried the other type.
~~What I think of it~~
Great stuff!
The mouthwash is easy to use and has now become part of my cleaning of teeth routine. Obviously, I will use another product when this runs out because I don't want it not to work next time I have a sore throat. My sore throat and gum certainly got better, although whether this was due to the mouthwash ... ...say my mouth did feel cleaner and altogether fresher than with some other mouthwashes. However, when I used it, my sore throat did feel a bit anaesthetised, so all good happenings.
I have not noticed any discoloration of my teeth, which is contrary to what I was led to believe, although I think I was told this in the days when you could get only the original red stuff, (I'm sure it was red) so maybe it was the red stuff which discoloured teeth, ...

...a bottle of Oraldene.
Oraldene is an over the counter medicine that has many uses and should be considered an essential item for your bathroom cabinet. I have used this before and find it works well and is a bit of an all rounder as far as counter medicines go.
Oraldene can be found in the likes of Superdrug and Boots and you will notice the eyecatching silver/pink and blue box which stands out against it's contemporaries. I noticed under the text ... ...chose the more user friendly Oraldene for their name! When you take this out of the box it looks like something you might obtain from your dentist.
The bottle is glass and contains 200ml of mouthwash. The label on the bottle is the same design as the box with it's swooshing arrow and grey and blue background. Inside your bottle is a bright red liquid - it has the same consistency as a regular mouthwash. When you twist open the bottle top it has ...

...nothing more than freshen breath. Oraldene excels in this respect because it not only freshens breath, but also provides medicated relief for mouth and throat infections. Advantages: Maybe works good for ulcers Disadvantages: Made mouth feel gunky and tongue numb, expensive, aniseed taste (yuck!)
Oraldene is a mouthwash the is recommended mainly for mouth ulcers, halitosis (bad breath), oral thrush and gingivitis and following an illness a few weeks ago which left me with oral thrush and gingivitis I decided to give this a shot. The main reason for this was when I'd had dental surgery in the past I'd use Chlorohexadene (one of the active ingredients) and it had seemed to help. I was less than impressed with oraldene I must say.
It's a strange ... ...3 times a day. The initial sensation on first use is a very strong burning feeling. It was quite unpleasant and I must say that I found it difficult to rinse with this. The taste is also bizzarre and I really couldn't place it. The aftertaste was like aniseed balls and as I hate aniseed this didn't exactly make me happy about using it.
After rinsing your mouth feels very weird. There is a dulling of taste and your mouth feels slightly gunked up. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Oraldene Mouthwash"
I suffer from mouth ulcer occasionally and sometimes it can get very painful. I remember once it was so bad that I literally called a friend of mine who is a dentist. She recommended Oraldenemouthwash to me.
Well, I never thought of using a mouthwash before. I usually use bonjela gel. Oraldene has both antibacterial and antifungal action which relieves mouth and throat infections such as mouth ulcers,
sore or bleeding gums, sore throats and bad breath.
It costs 2.93 for 200ml, slightly more expensive than ordinary mouthwash but I have to say it's worth every penny. What comes with the bottle is a small measuring cup of 15ml. You just have to gargle 15 ml of the solution 1-2 times a day. After the first use, I could already feel the improvement. It relieves some of the pain and also gives me a sense of cleanliness and a fresh ...

I also try and use the mouth wash as soon as I recognise the symptoms starting and I do find that the number of infections has decresead significantly. I find the product reasonable priced compared to other products on the markets and would certainly recommend it to friends and family. ...
