Pay As You Go-
I received a free online orange pay as you go sim from a friend. It looked pretty good and I wanted to register. As always, before registering, I read through the mini booklet they provided. I was excited and so decided to register.
Topping Up ...So I pop into an Orange shop and grab a swipe card. I read through the instructions as carefully as I can, and finally after feeling confident with what to do, I tried to register my swipe card. Problem…I go through the options and then finally the annoying automated woman begins to say ‘thank you for calling Orange, we are unable to process your call right now. Please try again later. Topping Up Well, Orange haven’t won anything here! As with other networks, you can top up easily with an e-voucher (the pre historic way!). However, for someone like me who doesn’t want to use a debit card or an e-voucher and would simply find it easier to use a swipe card, this isn’t helpful. So I pop into an Orange shop and grab a swipe card. I read through the instructions as carefully as I can, and finally after feeling confident with what to do, I tried to register my swipe card. Problem…I go through the options and then finally the annoying automated woman begins to say ‘thank you for calling Orange, we are unable to process your call right now. Please try again later. Goodbye!’ How annoying. So as with other things I waited an hour and called back. Same response. Tried every couple of hours for every day in a week and my luck wasn’t any better, so I pooped into the local Orange shop again. The man told me to top up otherwise it wouldn’t work. So I topped up using an e-voucher. Silly Me. It didn’t work. Waited 2 weeks and it still didn’t work. It’s partly my problem for topping up without sorting the problem out. Now I have to use the e-voucher. This didn’t help with my daily lifestyle, so I have to say on this one; Orange has simply let me down.
Tariff The tariff I am on charges: 40p to other UK mobile per minute 20p to Orange and Landlines per minute 10p per answer phone call 10p per text 30p per photo message 50p a minute for video calls
The real treat though was the text reward. If you top up by a tenna, you receive 300 free texts and 1MB Orange World Browsing. 20 quid will give you 600 texts and 30 quid would give you a massive 1000 texts, apart from the fact that I haven’t ever met anyone who tops up by 30 pounds a month (why not just get a contract??). Overall, apart from the free texts, these prices aren’t really special and Orange are clearly trying to compete with the very popular O2 online sim- The Genie. I’ll let you know, the Genie wins hands down!!!
Orange Wednesdays A No Go Area-especially for me!! I tried Orange Wednesdays a day after I topped up. I expected a reply to my ‘FILM’ text to ‘241’ within 7 hours. Well, many of my mates wanted to watch a film. Difference. They received a reply within minutes. I didn’t receive a reply until the Tuesday after. 6 whole days after! What a joke. And all they said was ‘Sorry for you missing your film last week’. I’m sorry but that isn’t good enough and if I was running low on credit I’d have probably given up on the network there and then.
Orange World Well, luckily they give you 4 pounds (1MB) worth of Orange World browsing. O2 give you 300 wap mins. Orange World is probably the worst form of mobile internet you are going to get. Need I explain further? Well I’m not going to. It’s literally so bad it isn’t worth writing about. If you want internet on your phone, switch to ‘3’, but don’t expect any signal!
Customer Service Well, I don’t know about others but I find that customer service is one of the most important things today, with competition so fierce, the employee that can grab the customer and win him over, is the one that makes the money. Unfortunately, in today’s world, it seems that once they have taken your money, they don’t want to know you. That is simply unacceptable and that is how I feel Orange have treated me. When I walked into the shop to sort the swipe card problem out, the shop was empty (no customers) but there were 4 employees there. 3 having a nice chat about last bight’s TV, the other fiddling about behind the counter. I waited patiently at the counter for the guy to speak to me but he didn’t. 10 minutes later after he had sorted his computer mouse out, he asked me what the problem was. He put his arm around me and told me to top up and it’d be OK. How Foolish I was to believe him! This is what I call bad customer service. No analysis except for telling me to top up. Anyway, ringing the ‘bright’ people up isn’t much good. You get put In a half an hour queue, get charged for the call and they don’t understand what you are saying.
Overall Well, I expected a lot from Orange Pay As You Go, but I’m not entirely satisfied. I have been on a range of networks on contract all my life ranging from Vodafone to 3. This isn’t my first pay as you go sim however I simply do not believe that standards can be set so low for us customers. Maybe it’s what you get for not being on pay monthly, maybe it only happens to new customers, or maybe it’s just happened to me! Orange seem to be heading way off the mark in today’s challenge for good customer service and I firmly believe that unless all is sorted out, Orange is going down. The main problem is the customer service and the inability of many employees, to do anything. Talking about customer service, please view my Orange review on Pay Monthly…not much better I’m afraid. Please could all you fellow readers do me a favour, and inform me whether the same is happening to you, or whether I’m in it myself! Thank You. Any Comments Welcome!!
Advantages: 10% extra credit if top up by £50, 60 seconds reserve call, calls get cheaper Disadvantages: charged to access voicemail & customer services
...and a PAYG phone with Orange and I'm more than happy to be sticking to PAYG, especially the talk and save tariff.
The 25p a minute for the first three minutes soon becomes 5p a minute for the rest of the day, the network coverage is pretty good wherever I've been really and there are several deals that can make your calls even cheaper.
I decided to take on the talk saver package - £19.99 for the year and it gives 60% discount on all calls between ... ...it has to be another orange number and it has to PAYG. Otherwise, great!
The other add-on packages such as text saver are really good too. allowing you cheaper text messages, and once all of your credit has gone, Orange will allow you one 60 second or two 30 second reserve calls, bonus!
Only disadvantages really are the charges to access voicemail (normal call rates) and Customer Services (25p flat rate per call) and the fact that you can never ...

Quick review of Orange Talk And Save Pay As You Go
I have been with Orange for 7 and half years now and I can say they are one of the best networks around. Customer service calls cost a one off charge of 25p which isnt bad as they always seem to solve your problem quickly and the staff at Orange are always friendly and helpful. The tarrif is also great value - top up by just £10 per month and get 300 free text plus 1MB of mobile internet access. I travel weekly accross England and find coverage is excellent too. Was previously with Vodaphone and one 2 one (T Mobile) - Both were very expensive and coverage was no good on T Mobile. ...
