Sorry this is so long!!! worth reading if your looking to change provider
I joined freeserve way back when dial up was the thing and qucikly got the broadband and it worked then came wannado and it still worked ( if a bit slower) then orange arrive and it stopped. I woud like to point out that one of orange's big movs was to shift the tech help to india...... good move
first of all the speed went to below 500k from 2mb??? tech had no idea maybe it was extension...
Then i recieved an email stating that a free upgrade would be done to give me a faster connection (This actually meant that orange are fitting tehy own equipment so tehy don't have to pay BT). The email stated that i wold lose service for 30 mins. I didnt even bother trying to connect for the first few days to give them time. When i did there was nothing, i phoned tech help they ran a line check. They found one ( a line that is lol hi words not mine i thoguth thats a good start i have a phone line) and asked to me to wait 48 hours and phone them if it didn't work. 48 hours pass i rang back they repeated this several times increasig the wait to 5 days. After the second 48 hours i realised that something was definately not right so i rang back after 24 hours and aksed for progress they said "phone back in 48 hours" i stated shouldn't that be 24 hours as i rang yesterday.... the man was well puzzled and this guy was a tech help.. i waited the 48 hours and nothing.. rang back again requested my mac code and was told it takes 5 workingdays to send me my mac and my line would be fixed bt then. So i waited then rang back again and told again by tech help to wait 5 working days.after this i phoned the OFT (Office of fair Trading) they where very helpful and seemed to have a knowledge of orange (I aint suprised!!) they instructed me exactly what to say next time i rang.
So i armed myslef with my questions. As soon as i got through to someone i asked for their department and fullname after they gave this information i informed them that i was recording the conversation.. this seemed to change the whole process i was passed ot line manager who went off to check with the networks place and came back to inform me that after 3 weeks of phoning and waiting that no action at all had been taken nothing not one line test nothing(although tech help stated they ran one everytim i rang)................. I was appalled and immediatly got aggressive. They promised to fix the roblem that day and they did...
the speed on the new server is rubbish says 2.2mb acts like dial up. I rang today to get that mac code that never arrived. And the bloke says we can upgrade you to 7mb?? I replied i pay for up to 8mb now why haven't i got 7mb!!! the reply was "sign a 12 month contract we will give you a decent speed otherwise stay with what you have and there are only 2 other ISP's that will take our customers, so wat do you want to do?" i have never been spoken to by a company like that in my life its outrageous. I requested the MAC code and hung up. Phone BT and they will have me and give me 7mb (the exchange speed for where i am)

I only had a email addy with wanadoo and it was fine, when orange took over all I got was spam, spam and more spam so I stopped using it. So glad I didn't have them as an ISP! x

My mother in law has had very similar bad service too. I know of quite a few people that have had this problem so its best to stay clear
