It is not wise to try to hold a camera whilst you are jumping out of a plane. Or skiing ... more
down a mountain. Or climbing the Grand Canyon. But, naturally, if you are doing those things you will, somehow, want to capture the moment. Action Camera is your answer. It is a tough, no-nonsense digital movie camera that attaches easily to a helmet, mast, harness, or handlebars. It has a 640x480 VGA CMOS sensor to record your incredible footage with incredible quality. You can then playback your adrenaline-fuelled antics on your PC or TV, or upload them to MySpace or YouTube. And if that is not enough, it also has an in-built SD card slot, so you can boost the existing 32MB of on-board memory up to 2GB. Ah yes, it's water, dirt, rain, snow and shock proof too. Now, be off with you. Haven't you got a cliff face to scale?

Purchase number one was a projection clock! Now despite it’s rather ‘different’ title, the projection clock is a must have. How many times have you woken in the middle off the night, wanting to check the time? Holding the clock in all different angles trying to catch a little light to reflect on the face of the clock so you can view the time? I always wake up every night, and always want to know what time it is. Mainly to see whether it’s worth going back to sleep! Imagine my delight when I found this product. Now all I do have to do is press a button and the time is displayed in either AM/PM mode on the ceiling in good clear type. The clock retails at around £25 or so, and is an excellent buy!
Now onto the digital camera: The camera is compact and neat enough, but the best part is it is three in one! It can be a web cam, short video cam, and an ordinary digital camera.
The camera itself can store up to 20 pictures in its best quality or up to 80 in a lower capacity. It also has a handy feature of a self-timer, which allows you to get in the photo (The timer allows a ten second break before the camera takes the snap).
Now as many of you know I am not technically minded at all, in fact the first sign of trouble with the pc and I panic! But this camera comes complete with all the software and cables you need. Arc Soft Photo suite, Video Creator and net meeting-are all within the package.
I saw the camera in Debenhams for £50, and thought what a bargain? Then another part of me thought ‘it’s no good-not at that price’! Anyway the earlier thought got the better of me, and I make the transaction!
Back home I was keen to prove that I could indeed set up this camera, after all it claimed to be user friendly. I loaded the software onto my system without any hiccups, but then disaster struck. I tried to connect the camera to my pc using a cable already attached-it completely crashed my system. I left my pc alone for three days and sulked, thinking I had ruined it! However being a generous type of guy, I decided to give the pc (always the pc’s fault) another chance and booted her up again. It worked-she burst into action! So now what I had to do was figure out the cables. I gingerly placed the USB in the correct port, and took some photographs.
Now come the fun part of developing them. Simply place the plug bit of the USB into the hole in the camera, load up your software and with a few clicks there they are on screen! I had success: boy was I pleased! I admit the quality of the pictures would never be good enough for any professional or anyone who is extremely particular. However it is suitable for me and I think it would be okay for many home users, at least giving them some idea of a digital camera.
The video camera is very short (something like 10 seconds), but it is easy to use, you simply take a series of shots with the camera, and then open them up in the video software, and play! As for the web cam I haven’t yet bothered with that.
Advantages ---------------
· Cheap camera · Instant photos · Short video capability · Web cam · Good starting camera · 20 better quality pictures · 80 lower quality pictures · Easy to use (must be) · No film needed · All software and cables included · Self timer so you can get in the picture
Disadvantages -------------------
· Not the best quality · You get what you pay for ultimately · You can not take photographs without a good source of light · No flash · Two AA batteries
Would I recommend it? I think I would, especially if like me you are just starting with a digital camera, or if money is tight it is a good option. I am happy with mine and have indeed used it a lot. It cost around £50, which is with everything you need to get going! I whole heartedly reccomened the projection clock...
Having received a cardcam as a christmas gift I was impressed by the features detailed on the
packaging and instruction pamphlet. However, my joy
was short lived upon attempting to install the product. The newer versions of Windows, i.e., Windows
2000/NT/XP etc., can and will cause problems for the
less PC orientated persons when attempting to install a large number of hardware devices. Having
found this out the hard way for myself despite being ...

My Experience?
I've had the OregonScientificdigital camera for around 2 years now, and overall I have been disappointed. However I have a little relief in the fact that I paid very little for it through a TV bidding channel, Bid-up TV, I recall that it was about £100 along with an array of free image editing and gallery software. Ever since I received the camera it has gone down hill consistently. I know others have had good experiences with this camera, so it would appear to be on an individual basis, but do take heed. Also as other owners have reported the camera will often freeze on random occasions. To resolve, remove the batteries and replace them, this usually makes the camera work again. Even the slightest little tap will crash the camera and it will turn off.
