● The Reason For The Purchase ● I recently went out on our annual works christmas party and wanted to take a camera, the only digital camera I had was a fairly decent one (Minolta DiMage Z1, of which I've already written a review!) everyone knows how parties can get towards the end, drink could of been spilt on it, it could of got damaged or stolen. So I hunted around for a small, cheap digital camera and among others found this one. I bought it brand new for £30 and thought it seemed too good to be true, in a nutshell its 1.3 megapixels, detachable flash, compact, can take memory cards and has an internal rechargeable battery.
● More About The Camera ● This camera is so small I couldn't believe all the features it has. It is very literally the size of a credit card and only 1.2 cm thin!!!!! On one edge there is a cog style on/off/macro mode (for capturing close up images) and the neck strap hole. The other edge has the slot for either Multi Media Cards (MMC) or Secure Digital Cards (SD) and the connection for the USB cable. The rechargeable battery is built into the camera and is charged whenever the camera is connected to a PC, allegedly its good for 500 pictures before it needs juicing up again. I've not used it a great many times (20 max in one night) so I can't so if that claim is grossly exaggerated or spot on. There is 2 slots on the top of the camera where the flash module plugs very snugly into. The shutter release (or fire button as I call it!!) is also on the top just to the side of the flash module. On the back of the camera is an LCD display which tells you the basics, if there is a memory card inserted, if it is connected to a PC, the battery indicator, the flash indicator (takes no more than 5 seconds to warm up), number of shots remaining and the resolution setting (2 possible settings). You can also delete the most recent images at the touch of a button, however, I found it easier using the software to delete straight after downloading the images. The flash unit is powered separately by an AAA battery and has its own on/off switch.
● The Software ● This is usually the most troublesome area, thankfully though not in this case. The software installed first time with no problems and allows you to change a few of the cameras settings. Very handily it also tells you in a % figure how charged the battery is. Like I said earlier its a USB connection so you don't have to fiddle about connecting the camera. When you download images the software automatically creates a dated folder and stores the pictures there as thumbnails which you can then look at and rotate or start a slideshow of the pictures in that folder.
● Style With A Capital S ● As you can see from the picture its quite a stylish little camera, I particularly like the brushed metal look. The layout of the buttons is fantastic and I only have one small complaint in that respect, the viewfinder is (I feel) too far away from the lens, so a couple of the pictures I first took had peoples heads cut off!!!! The manufacturer even done a couple of thumb depressions on the back of the camera, one for a sausage thumb, one for a dainty thumb.
● Summary ● In summary, I can not fault this camera. For only £30 its perfect to have for nights out. The resolution is good and the software is great.
