Advantages: Very quick with firewire, quiet (no fan), sturdy and well-built, 4-6-pin firewire lead, looks cool! Disadvantages: No backup/partitioning software included
...My laptop hard disk had recently been playing up, with sectors becomming corrupt all over the place. So I thought it was time to buy a decent external backup drive, with enough space for future storage needs.
Luckily my laptop has a 4 pin Firewire connector so I knew backing up the 30GB of data wouldn't take too long, compared to using the USB 1.1 port. (take note: with some Firewire drives you may need to buy a 4-to-6 pin adaptor/lead for laptop use).
After doing some research, and having previously used LaCie drives at an old design studio job and being impressed with them, I decided the D2250GB was for me. It has 3 connectors: USB2.0 (compatible with USB 1.1 but of course is slower), Firewire 400, and the new Firewire 800 (Apple only, but hopefully the PC will adopt the faster Firewire standard in time). I bought the largest HD I...

Advantages: 250GB Lots of memory, Low power consumption, Cheap Disadvantages: 2.5-inch limits it to USUALLY Laptops but can be used in desktop computers
...Fairly decent hard-drive.
Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a real bargin! I really recommend this hard-drive, the real-time data protection will help if your computer ever shuts off. It is also a 2.5-inch hard-drive which usually associates with laptops, however there are some desktop computers which could use this. If you did want to buy this for a desktop computer but your computer could only use 3.5-inch then you could buy an external hard-drive shell which could plug straight into your computer OR laptop through USB or Firewire. Overall I think this is a very nice hard-drive and a good bargin at the price it's avaliable for....

Advantages: Large and fast removable storage. Disadvantages: Can get a bit warm during operation.
...I've owned this drive for a few months now. I bought it because I needed a large amount of storage space but didn't need access to the data all the time.
**Size and Speed:**
This "250GB" drive gives 233 GB of space once formatted. This isn't the largest model on the market; there was a 300 GB model too, but that one only had 2 MB of cache and spins at 5400 rpm, compared to the 8 MB and 7200 rpm spin rate of this drive. This extra speed generally helps files to be accessed faster - I've played plenty of games from this hard disk and compared to my internal hard drive (7200 rpm, ATA100) it's not all that much slower at loading.
**Connections:**
The great thing about this drive is that it has both USB2.0 (USB 1.1 backward compatible) and IEE1394 "Firewire" connection options. Since my computer is somewhat old and only had USB 1.1 (which...

I've bought two of these drives now and am very impressed. On opening the box you'll find the following: The drive itself, power supply, USB cable and an instruction leaflet.
The drive feels solid and well built, although the aluminium case does... more
I recently bought one of these hardrives for around £60. So far, this hard drive has not given any problems what so ever. The physical size of the hard drive is not very big, so chances are you can find a place close to your PC tower to put it.
