The Rubik Cube
I like the majority of people who were bought up in the eighties owned my own Rubik’s cube.
What is it?
The Rubik cube is one of the most infuriating toys ever to hit the toy shelves.
They Rubik cube is a six sided shape with 6 different colours which has a grid with nine different coloured stickers on.
Buying your Cube
When you purchase the cube it complete then by swivelling and twisting the cube you get to re arrange the cube. In my experience this is the last time you will see the cube in its completed format.
History of the cube
The Rubik's' cube was invented by Emo Rubik in 1974 but was a huge craze in the 1980's. There was a huge range of books on how to solve this perplexing puzzle. I actually owned a book but it was far too complicated for me to understand. There were also worldwide competitions on how fast they can solve the cube.
More information
The current world record for solving the Rubik's cube is held by Erik Akkersdijk of the Netherlands in 2008 with a time of 7.08 seconds.
This toy is now classed as a retro toy and on Ram Fm they stated that if you have an original Rubik's cube from the eighties in mint condition it is worth about £50. They are currently available to buy though on Amazon for £6.61 with free postage.

I was at school during the eighties and can say that at our school there were only two methods of solving the puzzle. One was to carefully peel all the stickers and re arrange them so that they are once more solid blocks of colour once more and the other was to take a screwdriver to the cube and then rebuild the whole thing.
Overall
This is one puzzle that can entertain or infuriate dependent upon your point of view. I personally get very frustrated with things that I can't work out but due to the fact that it is one of the greatest all time selling toy I assume that I am in a minority.
This is great for those who enjoy a puzzle but you must be prepared to fail. however this is not one I can personally recommend as it infuriates me.
Advantages: Very good for passing time. Can be Fun. Small, easy to handle. Pocket toy, can be used on the move Disadvantages: Can be very time consuming. Can get very annoying. Can get boring if your too good at it!

The Rubik's cube was invented in the 1980's by Erno Rubik who used to teach in a school at Budapest. He invented this cube to help students learn about geometry but he then decided to sell this cube as a brain challenging toy. As soon as this toy came out thousands of people went to buy in what is now called the Rubik craze. Nearly thirty years on this toy is still a huge success. The object is actually quite simple. You have a cube with 6 faces ... ...in one of six colours. Now all you need to do is make all six faces the same colour and you have solved the Rubik's cube. The only problem of course is that it is a teensy bit harder than it sounds. Personally I struggle to do 1 colour and don't know anyone who has done more than two sides at any one time. So you might ask is there any way of cracking this colourful toy. Well actually there is... and I don't mean actually cracking it open with a ...

Advantages: A challenging and addictive puzzle Disadvantages: Need a logical mind
I'm old enough to have been around when the Rubik's cube came out first time around. It got all kinds of awards at the time and when it comes down to it, it's a simple concept that's been very well executed - which is generally a good combination. The mechanics at the time were ingenious, to allow you to rotate the sides of the cube independently in three planes. The standard Rubik's cube is a 3x3x3 cube with six different-coloured faces. Back in the day, *everyone* had a cube, but not that many people could do it, until the books and solutions started appearing and the competitions were held. I remember my Dad coaxing me to enter a competition hosted by the Daily Mirror and I went along to the Edinburgh heat. I didn't even make it into the top 10 with my time of 43 seconds (on stage ...

and then tried to twist it back together again. Sound simple doesn't it?..Well believe me it isn't but more on that a little later after a bit of a history lesson.
The Origins
The Rubix Cube (Sometimes referred as the Rubik's Cube) was the invention of a Hungarian man called Erno Rubik who was obsessed with 3-D Geometry. He first came up with the idea of the Cube during the autumn of 1974 and it is said that he was inspired by the pebbles on the shores of the River Danube, where he became fascinated with how their smooth sides fitted together and interacted with each other. It was to take 3 years before the Cubes went into full-scale production and they made their first appearance in Hungarian Toy Stores just in time for the Christmas of 1978. Around this time Erno was appearing at Game Fairs throughout Hungary to promote his new toy ...
