After trying a number of Original Source shower gels and generally being quite impressed with the results; I decided to try the Original Source tea tree & mint shampoo (only because tesco had sold out of TRESemme!).
The Original Source; tea tree & mint shampoo is in keeping with all of the Original Source products; the shampoo being a terrifically bright coloured liquid; a pea green colour and being contained within a bottle that has black, bold and prominent writing upon it (see pictures). It is this combination of ‘in your face’ colours and the bold writing that make Original Source products stand out above other products of their kind. Original Source; tea tree & mint shampoo; is priced at £2.08 (although this price may differ from store to store) for a 250ml bottle and is made by the company ‘Cussons’. The shampoo can be bought in all supermarkets and I have seen it available in corner shops as well. (Original Source has a wide range of shampoos; yet the tea tree & mint is the only one of the range that is widely available.) This original source product is made with natural oils; and not with synthetic fragrances. It is not tested on animals and the packaging is recyclable. As with most of the Original Source products; it displays the ‘suitable for vegan’s’ logo.
Similarly to the Original Source shower gels that I have used; this shampoo has the history of the Original Source printed upon the back of the bottle; ‘The Original Source range of shower products is inspired by the bush remedies of Ellen Wakeman. Daughter of missionaries in New South Wales, she disgraced her family when she ran away to join the Australian Gold rush in 1857. By means left vague in the records of time, Ellen persuaded a barber to take her on as an apprentice. While learning to shave whiskers and pull prospectors teeth, she also discovered the healing powers of the plants that grow in the outback – and became famous for her herbal cures.’ I do like how Cussons have provided us with this information; as it adds to the uniqueness and quirkiness of Original Source products.
The tea tree and mint shampoo claims to offer us a stimulating and revitalising sensation ‘like nothing you’ve felt before’ The peppermint oil contained within the shampoo is supposed to make our heads tingle and give us a cooling sensation over the scalp. The shampoo is said to thoroughly cleanse the hair, leaving it clean and shiny; should leave our hair more manageable so that it looks and feels healthy. The tea tree oil holds protective properties. The shampoo is formulated for effective cleansing of all hair types and should be suitable for frequent use.
The directions are to; wet hair, massage through the hair and scalp into a rich lather. Leave it on for a minute so that we can feel the formula working; then rinse. Repeat as necessary. For best results follow with Original Source tea tree and mint conditioner. Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas, should contact be made; rinse immediately. People with sensitive skin should always test products on a small area of their skin prior to use.
Upon opening this product the mint smell was overwhelming and very intense; yet quite pleasant also. The smell alone is revitalising and exhilarating. The bright green liquid is quite thick and only a small amount is necessary; lathering very well. On application immediately you do indeed feel revitalised; the tingling and cooling effect follows soon after. After this initial nice result the tingling and cooling effect soon becomes unbearable and itchy; I could not leave it on the full minute finding myself frantically trying to rinse the shampoo off to ease the pain. I needed to get it off my head! Even after rinsing thoroughly my head was still uncomfortable with the overwhelming coolness and tingling. It took almost an hour for this to subside and it left me with one heck of a headache. In amongst this drama; I managed to get some shampoo into my eyes. The pain was something else; the tingling, stinging and cooling is phenomenally painful to eyes! Rinsing immediately although essential did not help at all. This pain did not subside; my eyes felt irritated for the remainder of the day. I do have slightly sensitive skin so initially I put this down to bad practice on my part, having not done as advised; testing it on a small area of skin. However my husband reported the same experience that I had had; he does not have sensitive skin.
On top of the trauma; I was very disappointed with the effectiveness of the shampoo. It dried out my hair completely leaving it feeling like straw, my hair knotted very easily and looked tired and lifeless almost immediately. We are advised to follow its use with the Original mint Source, tee tree & mint conditioner (again priced at £2.08); for best results; the next day (yes; I did put myself through this drama all over again!); I followed its use with the recommended conditioner. The results were better; but by no means lived up to the claims; in fact quite the opposite; my hair didn’t look slightly clean, healthy or shiny; more lifeless, un conditioned and dull. My husband was actually impressed by its effect on his hair; so it is possible that this shampoo is suitable for some people. He also insists that the uncomfortable ness of use eases through time (I will not be testing that claim!). Regardless; Original Source claim that this is suitable for all hair types; and it isn’t.
The mint smell lingers all day and is quite powerful; this didn’t bother my husband so much as he has short hair. However with my hair being longish and worn loose the constant smell bothered me. This also meant it wasn’t really suitable to wear perfume (which I like to wear) after using the shampoo; so instead I stank of mint all day.
I could quite categorically say that I hate this product; I will never use it again. It has been proven that bad hair days affect our temperament and our day to day conduct; I blame this shampoo for the two consecutive bad days I encountered and the reason for my un pleasant behaviour on those days!
As for recommending it; I think you need to have an acquired taste to appreciate the tea tree & mint shampoo, along with a suitable hair type. My husband actually has grown to love it and intends to remain loyal to it; I am sure he will not be the first or last person in the world who likes it. So; try it you might like it!
Original Source offer a whole range of products; including shower gels; shampoos; conditioners; bath foams; shave gels; anti-perspirant deodorant; hand washes; bar soaps and facial products.

Advantages: Gets rid of product build-up Disadvantages: Can sting the scalp/skin, dries my hair out with daily use
The Product
Original Source Mint & Tea Tree Daily Refresh Shampoo is available in 100ml or 250ml bottles, priced at 99p and £2.49 at the Original source website. The 250ml size is also stocked by Boots, Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Morrisons, and Waitrose according to their website, but I've only ever personally seen it in Boots and Tesco.
Why I Bought It
Though I very rarely use styling products on my hair, and so don't have a problem with product ... ...the bottle tells us that Original Source hair care products use only 100% pure and natural essential oils, and goes on to say, 'You only get cool, refreshing mint essential oil from real mint leaves. Daily Refresh Mint and Tea Tree Shampoo gives your hair that fresh, clean, natural feel. It works hard to remove product build up and improve the condition of your hair.' The shampoo also claims to be suitable for all hair types.

Advantages: Wakes you up, cleans well Disadvantages: Strong smell, some may not like the sensation it gives
...I decided to give the Original Source Mint & Tea Tree shampoo a try.
I had been told good things about the product previously, and my Dad had been raving on about it. But I took one look and thought no way am I putting peppermint green goo all over my head. Well, I ended up getting some just to keep people quiet.
WHAT IS IT?
As the product name suggests it is principally made of peppermint and tea tree oil. What is so good about these oils I hear ... ...information on both these oils. Original Source also make a variety of other products using different oils, and the company is a recognised member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council.
TEA TREE OIL
Tea tree oil comes from a species of paperback tree that is native to the sub-tropical coast of New South Wales and parts of Queensland, Australia. The oil remains one of aromatherapy’s most powerful tools in the fight against bacteria, fungi, yeast ...

...a free sample of the Original Source product and found it very good I decided to return to this brand to sort out the problem.
It is pretty easy to spot the Original Source products on any retailers' shelf as the contents of the various shampoos, conditioners and body washes are always bright distinctive colours contained in clear bottles with large bold product labeling in black and white print. Also at the time Boots were having a buy 2 for £3 ... ...back of the bottle then Original Source captures the powerful qualities of nature and the hair care products use only 100% natural oils, in this case the oil from real mint leaves. The product has not been tested on animals and also bears a logo which says it is suitable for vegans and it does not use any fragrances or perfume.
When I used this, the first thing I noticed was that I only needed a small amount in my hand as it really does lather up ...

Advantages: Volume, Texture, That smell!!! Disadvantages: may not be suitable for sensitive skin.
...remembered hearing good things about Original Source from other Ciao members. I looked through the bottles until i found one of the 'thickening' variety, and began to read part of the blurb on the back of the bottle, 'The shampoo is specially formulated to give fine/thin hair extra volume and body and...', that was enough, as my hair is extremely fine even for blonde hair, i was sold! So i dropped it into my basket and off i trotted.
That night ... ...didn't irritate at all.
Original Source do not test on animals, and all their products are dermatologically tested to lessen the chance of allergic reactions.
Overall i was extremely pleased with the results of this product, and would recommend it to anyone, especially those with fine or thin hair. And at £2.99 for a 300ml bottle, it's a bargain too! ...

Advantages: smells great Disadvantages: left my hair a little on the dry side
...am a fan of the Original Source shower gels; particularly the same fragrance - Tea Tree and Mint. Price and packaging~ The price probably varies depending on where you shop but I picked this up for a purse friendly 98p for a 250ml bottle at Superdrug. I think it normally retails around £1.99 but there tend to be different offers on such as BOGOF or half price at most stores. The shampoo comes in an upright standing, see through plastic bottle. The ... ...which is an intensely minty looking green - the same colour as the shower gel. The bottle is wider at the bottom and veers in thinner towards the top and has a black flip lid which is fairly easy to open. Using the shampoo~ All the usual rules apply -wet hair, lather and rinse - nothing any different to other shampoos but does it differ from others..? Using the shampoo myself~ I know the 'rules' are to use the same brand shampoo followed by it's ...

Advantages: It leaves your skin it top notch condition Disadvantages: erm erm - none
?
You can use this as a facial mask only and it will last quite a long time, or it may be used also on your back. It is supposed to zap zits, deep cleanse skin, and be calming on skin yet stimulate it and decongest your skin. I told you it was a miracle worker in a pot!
My Experience:
I had a pampering session last night so l tried out this mask on my face. After cleansing my face (l gave it a wash!), tying back my hair, l opened my tub. Whoosh – l was hit by this delicious minty smell. A good omen!
I scooped out a liberal amount. It was gloopy and gritty in texture and a bit icky really! I slapped it on over my face applying a good coating – avoiding sensitive eye areas obviously! Oh tingly and zingy on my face – ultra refreshing! It reminded me of OriginalSourceTeaTree and MintShampoo – ...
Advantages: high shine, wet look, works a treat, shine like a star, lasts a long time Disadvantages: none except if you use on top of a lipstick
have ever tried in my entire life. Hey, it’s so good, that I would even trade my OriginalSource, TeaTree and MintShampoo for it. Now that says something, doesn’t it?
Who needs a Maybelline Water Shine Lipstick, when there’s this cheaper alternative that actually works? Ok, so it’s clear, but just put your normal lipstick over the top and you will shine like a star. If I can, then so can you.
I don’t seem to have a very good relationship with lipsticks unless I apply a lip-gloss first, as my lips are very dry and usually crack. I’ve tried various brands of lipsticks including the Maybelline water shine range, but they all tend to dry up on my lips. I used to use lip balm, but now since trying this lip-gloss, I am in love. When I apply it to my lips, it feels smooth, non greasy and non sticky. It ...

TeaTree an Mint shower gel form originalsource!
I received a free sample of this shower gel through the post.I have tried there Shampoo range before and I liked it,so instead of giving it to my flatmate which I usually do with free samples I decided to try it myself.
Its really refreshing and makes you feel awake and alive. It has a nice smell and the vapour that it produces makes your shower invigourating.
I came out of the shower feeling ready for the long day ahead.I can honestly say that I felt more energetic than I have in a long time.
I will definatly be buying this product, but I will not be using it before I go to bed because it really wakes me up.
If you have trouble waking up in the mornings I suggest you try this before anything else! ...
